Lieutenant Shivangi Singh (born 15 March 1995 [1] ) is an Indian serving in the Indian Navy. [3] Lt. Shivangi hails from Fetehabad Village of Muzaffarpur District, Bihar and previously flew the pilatus aircraft. [4] Lt shivangi (Indian Navy) and flight Lt shivangi Singh (Indian Air force) are two different people. [5]
Shivangi Singh was born on 15 March 1995 in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, India to school teacher Hari Bhushan Singh and house wife Priyanka Singh. Shivangi hails from a humble agricultural background. During her childhood, she was captivated by the sight of seeing a politician using a helicopter to attend a political gathering in her native village, which inspired her to become a pilot. Hari Bhushan Singh, her father, is now the principal of a girls-only government school constructed on land donated by Shivangi's great grandfather, who donated it to enable people to overcome the conservative abhorrence of educating girls. Her mother Priyanka is a housewife. [6]
She obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in mechanical engineering from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology. Shivangi began further studies at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology in Jaipur. [3]
Shivangi was inducted into the Indian Navy under the Short Service Commission (SSC)-Pilot entry scheme. [7] In June 2018, she was commissioned into the Indian Navy. [8] She undertook two successive six month courses; first the Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, and the second at Air Force Academy where she trained on the Pilatus PC 7 MkII aircraft. [9] [7] In the six months prior to December 2019, she learnt flying the Dornier aircraft at the Indian Naval Air Squadron 550. [9]
Shivangi is among the batch of the first three women pilots of the Indian Navy, including Lt Shubhangi Swaroop and Lt Divya Sharma. [9] [7] [10]
She is slated to subsequently become an operational pilot on Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) aircraft after completing her training, as of December 2019. [8]
She also flew as first pilot along with Lt CDR Aanchal, Lt Apurva, Lt Pooja panda and Slt Pooja shekhawat in the maiden all women crew mission of Indian Navy from INAS 314, NAE Porbandar.

INS Vikrant is an aircraft carrier in service with Indian Navy. The carrier is India's fourth carrier and the first to be built in India. It was constructed by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, Kerala. The namesake Vikrant is a tribute to India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant (1961). Kiran Shekhawat was the first Indian Navy woman officer to be killed in the line of duty. On a flight as an observer with the Indian Navy, the woman Naval officer was martyred in a Dornier crash off the Goa coast on 24 March 2015. Lt. Shekhawat was the wife of another Naval officer, Vivek Chhoker.

Bhawana Kanth is one of the first female fighter pilots of India. She was declared as the first combat pilot along with two of her cohort, Mohana Singh, and Avani Chaturvedi. The trio was inducted into the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. They were formally commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. After the government of India decided to open the fighter stream in India Air Force for women on an experimental basis, these three women were the first to be selected for the program.

The Indian Air Force had 13.09% female officers in 2018 and 8.50% female officers in 2014; the Indian Navy had 6% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014 and the Indian Army had 3.80% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014. The Indian Air Force got airwomen for the first time in its history on 7 March 2024 as 153 female agniveers passed out from the Airmen Training School, Belagavi with 2,127 male agniveers.
