Shreyasi Singh (born 29 August 1991) is an Indian shooter and politician. She competes in the double trap event. She won a gold medal in the Shooting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia - Women's double trap [1] and a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. [2] In 2020, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and is a Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from Jamui constituency. [3]

Early life and education

Shreyasi's grandfather Kumar Serender Singh and father Digvijay Singh were both presidents of the National Rifle Association of India in their lifetimes. Shreyasi hails from Gidhaur in Jamui district of Bihar. [4] Her father was also former union minister. [5] Her mother Putul Kumari is also an ex-MP from Banka, Bihar. [6] Shreyasi studied arts at Hansraj College, Delhi and completed a MBA at Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad. [7]

Sports career

Singh was part of the Indian team at the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup held in Acapulco, Mexico. [8] She won the 15th position there. [9]

Singh competed in the singles and pair trap events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She came 6th in single trap event and 5th in pair trap event. She won the silver medal in the singles double trap event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow having scored 92 points in the final. In the same year, she won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon in the Double trap team event, along with Shagun Chowdhary and Varsha Varman. [10] She won gold medal in 61st National Shooting Championship while representing Bihar, in 2017. [11]

Political career

At the age of 30, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2020 and successfully contested the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election from Jamui (Vidhan Sabha constituency), defeating the RJD’s Vijay Prakash with a margin of over 41,000 votes. [12] [13] [14]

Vijay Kumar is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. He is the only Indian to have won a medal at 25m rapid Fire Pistol. He has been posted at Indian Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov.

Vikram Bhatnagar is an Indian sport shooter. He started his career in International Sports Shooting with winning the Silver medal in the Men's Double Trap (Pairs) with Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

She set a new national record by winning a gold medal in women's 25m air pistol at the National Shooting Championship Competition in 2017.

Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat is a female athlete from India who competes in the 25 metre pistol shooting event. She won her first gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. She is the first woman to win a gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games for India – she won the gold at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in the women's 25 metre pistol event. She won two gold medals in 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the first of the two golds in coming in the 25 metre pistol pair event with Anisa Sayyed. She had previously won gold in the 25 metre pistol event at the 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games, which were held in India.

He qualified to represent India at London 2012 Summer Olympics in men's 50 metre rifle prone event. His career best world ranking is 4th and in Asia 1st in 2010 to 2012.

Varsha Varman is a professional Indian sport shooter. She won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon in the women's double trap team event, along with Shagun Chowdhary and Shreyasi Singh. Varman thus became the first sportsperson from Bhopal Madhya Pradesh to win a medal at the Asian Games. She is a prodigy. She is the only athlete from her state to have represented India at the Commonwealth Games.

Timothy Kneale is a Manx sport shooter who specializes in the double trap. He is the current world record holder for the event, having scored 148 out of 150 at the 2014 ISSF World Cup meet in Munich, Germany. Apart from his world-record feat, Kneale has won two medals in a major international competition, a silver at the 2015 World Shotgun Championships and a bronze as a representative of the Isle of Man team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

Seema Tomar is an Indian trap shooter. She is the only Indian woman to win shotgun Silver Medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. She was born in Johri village of Uttar Pradesh.

Manu Bhaker is an Indian sport shooter. She has won 2 medals at the Olympics, 21 medals at the World Championships and World Cup, 1 medal at Commonwealth Games, and 7 medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships. Bhaker won the bronze medal in the 10m pistol event at the 2024 Paris Olympics and became the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympics medal. She won another bronze in the 10m pistol mixed team event, thus becoming the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympic Games.
