History

Starting in a foster house as a preschool in 2002, Singapore School Kelapa Gading grew sufficiently to move to its current large premises on Jl Pegangsaan Dua in 2005, where it became a Cambridge International Centre [2] and then becoming authorised to offer what was then the Cambridge International Primary Program. [5] A four-storey building was added to cater for growth; in 2013, the new swimming pool (once used as a venue for a local swimming competition) and Futsal court was completed.

Singapore School Kelapa Gading became a fully authorised IB World school in April 2014 [3] and has provided the IB Diploma Programme for its Junior College students since July 2014. As part of this development, a large Junior College Library and Media Centre were added, providing independent space and a significant collection of physical and online resources for the expanding program.

In September, 2014, Singapore School Kelapa Gading changed its name to SIS Kelapa Gading.

Facilities

The campus is on the corner of Jl. Pegangsaan Dua and Jl. Hibrida Raya in Kelapa Gading, close to Mal Kelapa Gading. The front building houses administration, meeting areas, a canteen, a library and a multi-purpose hall. The 4-storey building contains classrooms, science labs, IT labs, music and arts rooms and further meeting areas, and is monitored by CCTV. [6]

The preschool has its own playroom, playground, and small pool. The most recent addition is a Junior College Library and Media Centre on the fourth floor, which serves as the hub of the IB Diploma Programme. The football field is used during football season as one of the venues for the Jakarta Schools Football League [7] and it lies adjacent to a swimming pool and additional futsal court. [6]

Curriculum

The Preschool and Lower Primary use curriculum based on the most Ministry of Education (Singapore) syllabuses. This is continued into Upper Primary and Lower Secondary except for Science, Math and English. For those core subjects, the school has adopted the Cambridge Primary and Secondary Checkpoint curriculum frameworks. All students sit for Checkpoints exams administered and assessed by Cambridge Examinations in the UK each year.

Upper Secondary students study and take at least nine International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations after a two-years of study. The selection of subjects must be compatible with the Cambridge International Certificate of Education (ICE) which requires students to take at least two languages, a science, a social studies, and an vocational subject. In 2013/14, every student enrolled in the ICE achieved a minimum score of Credit and many students achieved Distinctions.

Junior College students study and take six subjects, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended essay, as well as participate in Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) as required for the IB Diploma Program. SIS-KG offers an IB Courses program which maintains high standards but provides more flexibility. All students participate in at least one co-curricular activity from many options after school each week.

The curriculum meets all the requirements of the Indonesian National Curriculum, and Indonesian students are prepared for national examinations: the 'Ujian Nasional'.
