Southeast Asian Games appearances (overview) | |
Singapore will send a delegation to compete at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 5 to 17 May 2023.
An initial 517 athletes were preliminary selected to represent Singapore across 27 sports. [1]
On 28 February 2023, more athletes have been selected following appeals to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC). [2] [3] A total of 558 athletes, including 260 debutants, will be competing in 30 sports. [4] Terry Tay from Men’s Gymnastics is the flag bearer. [4] No athlete will be fielded in Dance Sports, Jet Ski, Obstacle Race, Sepak Takraw, Soft Tennis and Weightlifting as well as the Kun Bokator, Arnis & Vovinam portion of Martial Arts.
On 1 March, Joseph Schooling announced he will be withdrawing from the Games for personal reasons. He was included in the initial selection. [5]
On 26 April, Fencer Samson Lee reportedly missed three training sessions due to the birth of his child, his father’s hospitalisation and work commitments. [6] As a result, he was dropped from the team for the Games. [6] There would be no replacement for Lee in the squad, leaving Bron Sheum, Si To Jian Tong and Simon Lee to represent Singapore for fencing. [6]
Singapore entered ten cyclists, Calvin Sim, Tong Khoon Fung, Darren Lim, Riyadh Hakim, Yeo Boon Kiak, Arfan Faisal, Chelsie Tan, Luo Yiwei, Elizabeth Liau and Faye Foo in the Games. [7]

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee for the Republic of Singapore. It was founded in 1947 as the Singapore Olympic and Sports Council (SOSC) before renaming to its current iteration in 1970.
Singapore has sent athletes to most Summer Olympics held since 1948, when it was established as a separate British Crown Colony from the Straits Settlements just over three months before the commencement of the 1948 Summer Olympics. It continued to send a team to the Games until 1964 when Singapore was part of Malaysia, which sent a combined team. Upon Singapore's full independence from Malaysia in 1965, the country continued to participate in all subsequent editions of the Summer Olympics except in 1980 when the country participated in a large Olympic boycott. Singapore made their Winter Olympics debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics, with speed skater, Cheyenne Goh, competing in the short track speed skating event. Ethnic Chinese from Singapore had also competed for China at the Olympics as part of their football team, namely Chua Boon Lay in 1936, and Chia Boon Leong and Chu Chee Seng in 1948.
Blade Club (Fencing) Singapore is a commercial fencing club founded 2005 by Henry Koh, an ex-National fencer of Singapore. Blade Club has classes for all three weapons in fencing: foil, epee, and sabre. The Club is located along Bukit Timah Road, Singapore.
Joseph Isaac Schooling is a Singaporean professional swimmer who specialises in butterfly, freestyle and medley events. He was the gold medalist in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Olympics, achieving Singapore's first ever Olympic gold medal. His winning time of 50.39s broke multiple records at the National, Southeast Asian, Asian and Olympic levels.
Swimming competitions at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games was held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, Singapore from 6 to 11 June 2015. Built only a year earlier, the venue is hosting the Southeast Asian Games for the first time. It was used to host the second Southeast Asian Swimming Championships in 2014 as a test bed for the organisers, with the 2015 Southeast Asian Games volunteers hired to also volunteer in the 2014 Swimming Championships to help in the familiarisation of the new venue.
