Sister Charity (Real name Kobutungi Charity) is a western Ugandan musical artist and TV personality. She presents the morning show (Sisimuka) on TV West in Mbarara, Uganda. She is popularly known for her 2001 hit song Grade. [1] She sings mostly in her native language Runyankole and then Luganda and English. [2] She was listed among the best artists from Western Uganda alongside Juliana Kanyomozi, Ray G, Angella Katatumba and Toniks on Hi Pipo. [3]

Career

She started singing with a group called TYE (Train the youth effort) band in 2000. [4] Charity joined Rays Band owned by Rasta Charz, with which she performs. She has also contributed to the Am A Ugandan project by bringing its message in a song titled” Ndi Omunya Uganda” a song that she collaborated with Santana her co-presenter on TV West and also a musician.

Sister Charity has nine albums and these include Grade, Omufumbo, Pound, Choice, Nkyalimbooko, Jambuura and many others. Most of these songs are in her local language (Runyankole) minus some few which are in Luganda and English.

She has shared stage with Uganda's biggest musicians like Nicky Jizzy Dr. Jose Chameleone, Prossy Kankunda, Gravity Omutujju and many others [5]

in 2011, Sister Charity was announced as a presenter for the morning show (Sisimuka) on Vision Group's TV West in Mbarara where she works until now. [6]

Personal life

She was born 7 June 1980 to Mr. and Mrs. Enoth Buriita in a family of 6 children and she is the second last born. She studied from Rweibaare Primary school, Rweibaare Secondary school, went to Train The youth Effort (TYE) for higher level and later joined Mbarara Business School (MBI) where she attained a UNEB Dip in Accountancy. [7] She married her mentor Rasta Charz but divorced in 2013 citing disrespect in their relationship. [8] [9]

Bebe Cool is an African reggae and ragga musician from Uganda. He started his career around 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya, but moved back to his native country a few years later. Bebe Cool was one of the first artists affiliated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and record label in Kenya.

Radio & Weasel is a Ugandan dynamic Duo under Goodlyfe Crew a Ugandan music group with lead performers being singers Moses Radio and [Weasel Manizo]. Moses Radio provided smooth RnB vocals while Weasel's contribution is a fusion of reggae, ragga and dancehall vibes. Because of their prominence, Moses Radio and Weasel have formed their own duo known as Radio and Weasel. The Lead singer Moses and Vocalist Radio died on 1 February 2018 from brain injuries after an assault by a bouncer at a club in Entebbe. Radio's attacker threw him down about 3 metres (9.8 ft) onto a concrete pavement which resulted in massive intracranial hemorrhage.

Irene Gladys Namubiru, also known as Iryn Namubiru Morel, is a Ugandan female vocalist. She is a light-lyric, alto voiced, Afro-pop, recording and performing artist.

Christopher Evans, but commonly known as Chris Evans, is a Ugandan songwriter, recording and performing artist. He composes and sings in a genre of Ugandan music known as Kidandali.

Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo, also known as Mowzey Radio, sometimes referred to as Moses Radio, was a Ugandan musician. He was one of the main performers of the Ugandan music group with Weasel Manizo.

According to Ugandan A&R manager Bryan Morel, Lilian's music style is neo-soul associated with R&B Band tendencies. She was a member of Blu*3. In 2014, she was one of the featured artists in the second season of "Coke Studio Africa".

Irene Ntale is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She sings RnB, reggae, and acoustic soul.

Gravity Omutujju is a Ugandan rapper. He is one of the top Luga flow artists who rap in Luganda.

Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.

Sheebah Karungi Ugandan recording artist

Sheebah Karungi is a Ugandan musician, dancer and actress who debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

Namukwaya Hajara Diana, also known as Spice Diana, is a Ugandan musician. She started her music career early and studied at Makerere University. Her first manager was Dr Fizol of Avie Records, and she was later managed by Twinkle Star under a fellow musician Kalifah AgaNaga in 2016. She has had several singles including "Anti Kale", "Bukete" and "Bimpe". Spice Diana has also collaborated with both local and international artists that include Pallaso, Ray G, Aganaga and Jamaican Orisha Sound among others.

Namakula Mary Bata,, commonly known as Mary Bata, is a Ugandan female songwriter, artist.

Reagan Muhairwe, commonly known as Ray G Rhiganz, is a Ugandan singer and song writer. He mainly sings heritage music in Runyankore. He started singing in 2009 while at school until 2014 when he broke through with his hit song "Amarari". Ray has shared big stages with international artists like Eddy Kenzo, Meddy and Jose Chameleone on the Johnnie Walker Highball tour in Mbarara, He is among Allan Toniks, Sister Charity, Juliana Kanyomozi who come from Western Uganda.

Stecia Mayanja alias Faridah is a Ugandan actress, musician and artist attached to the Golden band. Stecia Mayanja sings in Luganda and English. She was in Eagles Production Band before it became Golden Band, later on she parted ways with the Golden Band.
