The district includes the commercial, ecclesiastical, and residential buildings built by the Nellis Coal Company as a planned community between 1920 and 1955. The community was a model for coal communities in Boone County and the southern coal fields. Included in the district is the Nellis Church / Nellis Archives (1926), stone wall constructed by the Works Progress Administration, coal company storage building, Nellis Company Store and Offices (1922), community bulletin board, Superintendent's House, and clubhouse.
West Union Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at West Union, Doddridge County, West Virginia. It encompasses 27 contributing buildings that include the commercial and civic core of the town, and surrounding residential buildings. The district includes a number of buildings representative of popular architectural styles from the late-19th century and early-20th century including Romanesque Revival, Neoclassical, and Queen Anne. Notable buildings include the Doddridge County Courthouse (1903) and Jail, Scott W. Stuart House, Silas P. Smith House, Town Hall (1893), Droppleman Residence, Michel's Pharmacy (1925). Empire Oil Building, and Myles Manufacturing Co., Inc.. Also located in the district is the separately listed Silas P. Smith Opera House.

Camp Washington-Carver Complex, also known as West Virginia 4-H Camp for Negroes, is a historic camp and national historic district located near Clifftop, Fayette County, West Virginia. The district encompasses four contributing buildings and two contributing structures, the most notable being the Great Chestnut Lodge, a log building of unusual size and structural character. It is the largest log structure built entirely of chestnut in West Virginia. It was built in 1941–1942, and is a 1 1/2 story building in the form of a modified Latin cross with a gabled block and a gabled wing or ell. Also on the property are a log cottage (1940), two frame dormitories (1942), a water tower (1940), and a small pond (1940). The camp was established by an act of the West Virginia legislature in 1937, and developed as a project of the Works Progress Administration starting in 1939.
St. Albans Main Street Historic District is a national historic district located at St. Albans, Kanawha County, West Virginia. The district includes 22 contributing buildings in the central business district of St. Albans. They were constructed following two fires in 1906 that destroyed the original frame structures. The district includes 56 contributing buildings and one contributing structure in Welch's central business district. It includes a variety of retail stores, banks and offices, with some having apartment rental on their top floors. Also on the district is a municipal parking garage built in 1941. Virginian Railway Yard Historic District is a national historic district located at Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia. The district includes 14 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure related to the Virginian Railway property at Princeton. Many date to the founding of the railway in 1905–1909, with others related to a physical improvements campaign in the 1920s. A number of the buildings are a vernacular interpretation of the Romanesque Revival style. They include the Locomotive Erecting Shop, transfer table pit, machine shop foundations, three water pump houses, North Repair Shop, Brick Storehouse, and Car Wheel Shop.

The district includes 409 contributing buildings, 4 contributing structures, and 2 contributing objects in a primarily residential area of the Greenmount neighborhood of Morgantown. Most of the dwellings were built between 1901 and 1925 and are of frame construction with brick or wood facades, one- to 2 1/2 stories high with gable fronts. Wheeling Warehouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district includes 20 contributing buildings and 11 contributing structures. They are warehouses and commercial style buildings and structures between Main Street and the Ohio River. All of the buildings date to the late-19th and early-20th century. The warehouses are mostly two- and three-story masonry buildings. The two-story commercial buildings have storefronts on the first floor and residential units above. Notable buildings and structures include the Pump Store (1933), Wheeling Stamping Plant (1932), Allied Plate Glass, Warwick China, Boury Warehouse, Ott-Heiskell Company, Edward Wagner Wholesale Grocers building (1915), the Moderne style former Greyhound Bus Station, and Main Street Bridge (1891).
Franklin Historic District is a national historic district located at Franklin, Pendleton County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 111 contributing buildings, mostly residences. It also includes the central business district, much of it rebuilt after a fire in 1924. Most of the residences are in the Queen Anne or American Foursquare style, with commercial Greek Revival and Italianate-style buildings. Notable buildings include an early 19th-century, stuccoed stone farmhouse and barn, five Queen Anne style dwellings, and the Pendleton County Court House (1924-1925).
