Sopur (or Sopore) Railway Station is situated in the outskirts of Sopore town. It lies on Northern Railway Network Zone of Indian Railways. [1] Sopore is currently the northernmost station of Indian Railways.

Location

The station is located at Amargrah about 2 km from Sopore town towards south on Srinagar-Sopore highway. [2]

History

The station has been built as part of the Jammu–Baramulla line megaproject, intending to link the Kashmir Valley with Jammu Tawi and the rest of the Indian railway network.[ citation needed ]

Design

The station features Kashmiri wood architecture, with an intended ambience of a royal court which is designed to complement the local surroundings to the station. Station signage is predominantly in Urdu, English and Hindi.[ citation needed ]

The station is situated on R.L. of 1589 m above mean sea level.[ citation needed ]

The 338 km railway track will start from Jammu and end at Baramulla. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Firozpur railway division of Indian Railways' Northern zone. Part of this railway route from Udhampur to Baramulla is known as Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula Rail Link (USBRL). The 359 m (1,178 ft) tall Chenab Bridge lies on this line, which is the tallest railway bridge in the world. The total project cost in 2022 was INR28,000 crore.
