South Korea competed in the Summer Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom. It was the first time Korea competed as an independent country. The Korean Olympic Committee, established in 1946 and recognized in 1947, represented only South Korea although the division of Korea was not fully realized at the time of the 1948 Games.

The football tournament of the 1948 Summer Olympics was won by Sweden. This remains Sweden's only international title at a senior male football level and was the first international appearance of the trio that would later be known as Gre-No-Li dominating the Italian league at A.C. Milan in the 1950s.

The South Korea men's national volleyball team represents South Korea in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Korea Volleyball Association. The national team's best performance at the Olympic Games was 5th place at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, California, United States. Yeo Seo-jeong is a South Korean artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, 2023 World bronze medalist, the 2018 Asian Games champion, and 2022 Asian champion on vault. She is the first South Korean female gymnast to win an Olympic medal and also the first to win a World Championships medal.

The 2021 Korean Mixed Doubles Curling Championships, Korea's national mixed doubles curling championships, was held July 27 to August 9, 2021 at the Jincheon National Training Centre in Jincheon, South Korea. The winning team will be the Korean National Mixed Doubles Team for the 2021–22 curling season. They will represent South Korea at the Olympic Qualification Event in hopes of reaching the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China and the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event, attempting to reach the 2022 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. The championship was held in two rounds.
