The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly is the political head of the Abia State legislative who serves as the presiding officer of the Abia State House of Assembly. [1] The Speaker is elected by Members of the House with the sole responsibilities of conducting meetings of the House, appointing committees and enforcing the Rules of the House. The current speaker is Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, a People's Democratic Party member who was sworn in on 10 June 2019, succeeding Chikwendu Kalu. [2]

He was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on the 10th of June, 2019 during the Inauguration of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Abia State, concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly.
