Tiger beetles are a family of beetles, Cicindelidae, known for their aggressive predatory habits and running speed. The fastest known species of tiger beetle, Rivacindela hudsoni, can run at a speed of 9 km/h, or about 125 body lengths per second. As of 2005, about 2,600 species and subspecies were known, with the richest diversity in the Oriental (Indo-Malayan) region, followed by the Neotropics. While historically treated as a subfamily of ground beetles (Carabidae) under the name Cicindelinae, several studies since 2020 indicated that they should be treated as a family, the Cicindelidae, which are a sister group to Carabidae within the Adephaga.
Anthia is a genus of the ground beetle family (Carabidae). Species of Anthia can spray a jet of formic acid up to 30 centimetres (12 in), which, if not treated, can cause blindness in animals that harass the beetles.
Panagaeus is a genus of ground beetle native to the Holarctic, the Near East, and North Africa. It contains the following species:
Agra is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, the ground beetles. There are over 500 described species, but there are well over 1000 specimens in collections that have not yet been described. The common name elegant canopy beetles has been used for genus Agra.
Carabinae is a subfamily of ground beetles in the family Carabidae. There are about 10 genera and more than 1,400 described species in Carabinae.
Scaphinotus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae. There are at least 60 species, all native to North America. They eat snails and are generally limited to the moist environments where snails live. These beetles are flightless.
Amblycoleus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Galerita is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Hiletinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing 21 species in two genera. All of the species in the genus Hiletus, as well as 6 species in Eucamaragnathus, live in Africa. The other species in Eucamaragnathus live in either Southeast Asia and India, or in South America.
Calophaena is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Pericalus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Dyschiridium is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Eripus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Tetracha is a genus of metallic tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae, formerly treated as a subgenus within the genus Megacephala. Tetracha species are exclusively New World in distribution, while Megacephala are exclusively Old World in distribution. There are ~100 described species in Tetracha.
Neocollyris celebensis is a species of ground beetle in the genus Neocollyris in the family Carabidae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1860.
Neocollyris chloroptera is a species of ground beetle in the genus Neocollyris in the family Carabidae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1860.
Neocollyris subclavata is a species of ground beetle in the genus Neocollyris in the family Carabidae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1860.
Neocollyris variitarsis is a species of ground beetle in the genus Neocollyris in the family Carabidae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1860.
Ega is a genus of ground beetles in the family Carabidae. There are about 17 described species in Ega.
Sphaeroderus nitidicollis is a species of ground beetle in the family Carabidae. It is found in North America.
