The Springfield ARCA 100 (formerly the Allen Crowe 100, Atlas 100 and the Dutch Boy 100) is an ARCA Menards Series stock car race held annually on the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack during the Illinois State Fair.

It is one of two dirt races on the ARCA schedule, the other being the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds Racetrack, both of which are longtime events on the series schedule. These two races are part of the Performance Seed Dirt Double, which is a $20,000 bonus that is given to a driver who wins both races (the last time it happened was Parker Kligerman in 2009) and if not, bonuses are given to the drivers with the three best average finishes in the two races ($7,500 for first best, $5,000 for second best and $2,500 for third best). History

USAC era

The first race was held August 25, 1963. [2] That race was won by NASCAR driver Curtis Turner. [3]

USAC's stock car division sanctioned the race from the race's inception in 1963, until the series' demise in 1984. 1972's race was an odd occurrence, in that Al Unser won the USAC Stock car race on Saturday, and then won the USAC Championship Dirt Car race the following day. [2] The feat has never been repeated in the years since.

Co-sanctioning

As USAC was downsizing its stock car division, the 1983 and 1984 running of the Allen Crowe Memorial was co-sanctioned with ARCA.

ARCA era

ARCA took over as sole sanctioning body in 1985.

In years where the race has not had a title sponsor, it has been named after former driver Allen Crowe (either "Allen Crowe Memorial", "Allen Crowe Memorial 100", "Allen Crowe Memorial ARCA 100", or simply "Allen Crowe 100"). Crowe was born on November 12, 1928 in Springfield, Illinois and died in New Bremen, Ohio, on June 2, 1963 from injuries sustained in a Sprint Car race at New Bremen Speedway. Allen cut his teeth at the now-defunct Springfield Speedway. He started in stock cars and moved up fast. He soon became a first class racer, winning the Missouri-Illinois stock car title. He began racing in the USAC Championship Car Series, racing in the 1961 through 1963 seasons with 15 starts, including the 1962 and 1963 Indianapolis 500 races. He finished in the top ten six times, with his best finish of 5th in 1962 at Syracuse. [4]

Beginning in 1989, the race was renamed the Coors Allen Crowe Memorial 100. In 1995, it took the name "Pabst Genuine Draft 100", then was known as the "Super Chevy Dealers 100" for 1996, before returning to the original name for 1997. From 1999 to 2001, the race was known as the "Par-A-Dice 100", due to a new sponsor agreement. The race reverted to the "Allen Crowe Memorial 100" (or a variation of) moniker in 2002 and kept it until being renamed the "SuperChevyStores.com 100" for 2014. [5] The race had a title sponsor again in 2022 when Atlas Roofing became the title sponsor of the race. Dutch Boy Paint was the title sponsor of the race in 2023. The race did not have a title sponsor again in 2024 and was renamed to the "Springfield ARCA 100". [6]

There have been no deaths in the race attributed to crashes; however, four-time race winner Dean Roper, whose son Tony Roper was killed in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race 10 months earlier, suffered a heart attack on lap 17 of the 2001 race. Roper's car slowed on the frontstretch, then hit the inside retaining wall. He was unconscious when medical help arrived and later pronounced dead at Springfield Memorial Hospital. [7] [8] [9] [10]

§ - Because of inclement weather and track preparation, the race was run to a time limit as to allow other events at the Fairgrounds to start on time. Race start delayed to 1448 local time, and distance changed to one lap after 1559. Race further shortened by a red flag during the final lap caused by a crash. Race was red-flagged on Lap 76, but countback rule meant ARCA declared results official as of Lap 74.

It is the oldest track to continually host national championship dirt track racing, holding its first national championship race in 1934 under the American Automobile Association banner. It is the home of five world records for automobile racing, making it one of the fastest dirt tracks in the world. Since 1993, the venue is managed by Bob Sargent's Track Enterprises.

Allen Moreland Crowe was an American race car driver.

There has been auto racing in Illinois for almost as long as there have been automobiles. Almost every type of motorsport found in the United States can be found in Illinois. Both modern and historic tracks exist in Illinois, including NASCAR's Chicagoland Speedway and Gateway International Speedway. Notable drivers from Illinois include Danica Patrick, Tony Bettenhausen, and Fred Lorenzen.

The Southern Illinois 100 is an ARCA Menards Series stock car race held annually on the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds Racetrack during the DuQuoin State Fair on Labor Day weekend.

The USAC Stock Car division was the stock car racing class sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC). The division raced nationally; drivers from USAC's open wheel classes like Indy cars, Silver Crown, sprints, and midgets frequently competed in races and won championships. Several NASCAR drivers raced in USAC Stock Cars at various points in their careers.

Wilbur Darnell was an American racing driver from Lake Bluff, Illinois. He raced mainly in USAC Stock Cars, but he did have a few Indy Car and NASCAR Grand National Series starts. His grandson Erik Darnell is a current NASCAR driver.

Ty Gibbs was crowned the series champion, having won ten times and finished in the top four in 19 of 20 races.

Carol Dean Roper was an American stock car driver from Fair Grove, Missouri. Roper won three consecutive USAC Stock Car championships between 1981 and 1983. He also competed part time in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and ARCA Racing Series. He was also the father of NASCAR driver Tony Roper.

The 2021 Allen Crowe 100 was the 15th stock car race of the 2021 ARCA Menards Series season, and the 39th iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, August 22, in Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack, a 1 mile (1.6 km) permanent clay oval-shaped track at the Illinois State Fair. The race took the scheduled 100 laps to complete. At race's end, Corey Heim of Venturini Motorsports would dominate the race to win his seventh career ARCA Menards Series win and the sixth of the season. To fill out the podium, Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing and Taylor Gray of David Gilliland Racing would finish second and third respectively.

The 2021 Southern Illinois 100 presented by Lucas Oil was the 17th stock car race of the 2021 ARCA Menards Series season, and the 35th iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, September 5, in Du Quoin, Illinois at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds Racetrack, a 1 mile (1.6 km) permanent clay oval-shaped track at the DuQuoin State Fair. The race took 104 laps to complete due to an overtime finish. At race's end, Landen Lewis of Rette Jones Racing would dominate the race, leading every lap en route to his first career ARCA Menards Series win. To fill out the podium, Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing and Ken Schrader of Fast Track Racing would finish second and third respectively.

The 2020 Illinois Truck & Equipment Allen Crowe 100 was the 19th stock car race of the 2020 ARCA Menards Series and the 38th iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, October 4, 2020, in Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack, a 1 mile permanent clay oval-shaped track at the Illinois State Fair. The race was extended from its scheduled 100 laps to 103 laps due to a NASCAR overtime finish. At race's end, a dominating Ryan Unzicker of Hendren Motorsports would hold off the field on the final restart to win his first and only win of the season. To fill out the podium, Hailie Deegan of DGR-Crosley and Bret Holmes of Bret Holmes Racing would finish second and third respectively.

Michael "Buddy" Kofoid is an American professional dirt track and stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the USAC National Midget Series and POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series, driving for Keith Kunz Motorsports. He is the 2021 and 2022 USAC National Midget Series champion. He also competed part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 51 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports, and part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 15 Toyota Camry for Venturini Motorsports. He also has competed with the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint car Series. He collected his first Win at Husets Speedway on June 23, 2022.

The 2022 Atlas 100 was the 14th stock car race of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season, and the 40th iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, August 21, 2022, in Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack, a 1-mile (1.6 km) permanent oval-shaped dirt track. The race was decreased from 100 laps to 73 laps, due to time constraints with the Disturbed concert. In a dominating fashion, Jesse Love, driving for Venturini Motorsports, would lead every single lap, and earn his second career ARCA Menards Series win, and his first of the season. To fill out the podium, Buddy Kofoid, driving for Venturini Motorsports, and Ryan Unzicker, driving for Hendren Motorsports, would finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Ryan Unzicker is an American professional racing driver who competes in dirt track racing, as well as having competed part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 24 Chevrolet SS for Hendren Motorsports.

Clayton Weatherman is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 10 Toyota for Fast Track Racing.

The 2024 Springfield ARCA 100 was the 14th stock car race of the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season, and the 42nd iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack in Springfield, Illinois, a 1-mile (1.6 km) permanent oval-shaped dirt track. The race was originally scheduled to be contested over 100 laps, but was increased to 105 laps due to a late-race caution. William Sawalich, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, would continue his consistent domination in the ARCA Menards Series, winning the pole and leading every lap of the race to earn his 10th career ARCA Menards Series win, and his sixth of the season. Isabella Robusto finished in 2nd, becoming the fourth female driver to finish runner-up in an ARCA race, alongside Hailie Deegan, Erin Crocker, and Shawna Robinson. Taylor Reimer finished in 3rd, marking the first time in series history where two female drivers finished inside the top three in the same ARCA race. Along with this, Venturini Motorsports fielded four entries for four females in the race, the first time in team history to field four females in the same event.
