Peter William Vanderkaay is an American former competition swimmer who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events and is a four-time Olympic medalist. He was a member of the United States Olympic team in 2004, 2008, and 2012, and won bronze medals in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Trinidad and Tobago sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Its participation in the Beijing games marked its eighteenth Olympic appearance and fifteenth Summer Olympic appearance since its debut at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, excluding its joint participation with Jamaica and Barbados in 1960 as the West Indies Federation. With 28 athletes, more Trinidadians had competed at the Olympics than in any other single Olympic Games in its history before Beijing. Athletes representing Trinidad and Tobago advanced past the preliminary or qualification rounds in twelve events and reached the final rounds in four of those events. Of those four events, silver medals were won in the men's 100 meters and in the men's 4x100 meters relay. The latter was upgraded to gold due to one member of the quartet that crossed the line first, Nesta Carter, testing positive for a banned substance, resulting in their disqualification. The nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony that year was swimmer and Athens medalist George Bovell.
Allison Rodgers Schmitt is an American competition swimmer who specializes in freestyle events. She is a four-time Olympian and a ten-time Olympic medalist.

Dominik Koll is an Austrian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian, a 41-time national titleholder, and a 5-time long and short course Austrian record holder. Koll is a member of the swimming team for SK VÖEST Linz. He won a bronze medal, as a member of the Austrian swimming team, at the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Koll is one of few LGBT Olympians to come out as gay.
Eleni Kosti is a Greek former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She represented her nation Greece in two editions of the Olympic Games, and also won a bronze medal as part of the freestyle relay team at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería, Spain. Kosti trained throughout her swimming career for Olympiakos sports league in Athens under the tutelage of her coach Markos Mantaloufas.

Precious Oluoma Nwoke Bichiri is a Nigerian track and field athlete, who specialized in the 400 metres. Nwoke competed for the women's 4 × 400 m relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, along with her teammates Folashade Abugan, Joy Amechi Eze, and Muizat Ajoke Odumosu. She ran on the third leg of the second heat, with an individual-split time of 51.83 seconds. She and her team finished the relay in fourth place for a seasonal best time of 3:24.10, giving them a qualifying slot for the final round based on performance. By the following day, Nwoke and her team placed seventh in the finals, with another seasonal best time of 3:23.74.
Carline Muir is a Canadian sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. She won the bronze medal for the 400 metres, and ultimately, led her national team to claim the sprint relay title at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. She is also a three-time junior national champion, a two-time silver medalist at the Canadian Track and Field Championships.
Sayaka Aoki is a Japanese track and field sprinter and hurdler, who specializes in the 400 metres sprint and 400 metres hurdles. She competed for her country as part of the Japanese women's 4 × 400 metres relay team at the Summer Olympics in 2008 and the World Championships in Athletics three times. She has been a four-time medallist in the relay at the Asian Athletics Championships, including a gold medal in 2011. She won her first major international medal in the hurdles – a bronze – at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships.

Pieter Smith is a South African sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. He set his personal best time of 45.63 seconds by winning the 400 metres event at the 2009 South African Championships in Stellenbosch.
Pedro Juan Mejía Eusebio is a Dominican sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. He won two bronze medals, as a member of the Dominican Republic national team, in the men's 4 × 400 m relay at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and at the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain.
Jovon Toppin is a Trinidadian sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. Toppin competed for the men's 4 × 400 m relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, along with his teammates Ato Modibo, Cowin Mills, and Stann Waithe. He ran on the second leg of the second heat, with an individual-split time of 45.92 seconds. Toppin and his team finished the relay in fifth place, for a seasonal best time of 3:04.12, failing to advance into the final.
Cowin Mills is a Trinidadian sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. He is a 2007 NCAA All-American honoree, and a member of the track and field team for the Clemson Tigers. He is also a graduate of management at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.
