State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is a public university located on Unguja Island in Zanzibar, Tanzania. [1] The university was established by an act of House of Representatives of Zanzibar in 1999 and became operational in 2002.
Currently, the University consists of the School of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages (IKFL), School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE), the School of Education (SE), School of Natural and Social Sciences (SNSS) and Computer Centre (CC). Additional institutes and schools will be established in the future as demanded by the Act and as the University grows.
The Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages has been teaching Swahili, Arabic, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German with Education for a number of years at certificate and diploma levels. It has also been teaching Swahili to foreign students from different parts of the world. The Institute will continue to carry on with this work except that English is also taught in The School of Education, Arts and Sciences and Swahili will be taught to degree level.
The founding School of Education, Arts and Sciences provides courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Education (B.A. Ed), Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc. Ed) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences. These establishments will provide teachers who are badly needed for the development of the country.
Swahili, also known by its local name Kiswahili, is a Bantu language originally spoken by the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique. The number of current Swahili speakers, be they native or second-language speakers, is estimated to be over 200 million.
Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 km (16–31 mi) off the coast of the African mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja and Pemba Island. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre, Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site.
A Bachelor of Education is an undergraduate professional degree which prepares students for work as a teacher in schools. In some countries such as Tanzania and Kenya, additional tasks like field work and research are required in order for the student to be fully qualified to teach. It may also be accompanied with or followed by tests for licenses or certifications required for teachers in some areas.
The Open University of Sri Lanka is a national university in Sri Lanka. It is unique within the Sri Lankan national university system for being the only university to offer programs of study leading to certificate, diploma, degrees and postgraduate degrees up to PhD level through the Open and Distance Mode of Learning (ODL). The degrees awarded by the university are treated as equivalent to degrees awarded by any other Sri Lankan University under the preview of the University Grants Commission.
Thammasat University is a public research university in Thailand with campuses in Tha Phra Chan, Rangsit, Pattaya and Lampang Province. As of 2019, Thammasat University has over 33,000 students enrolled in 33 faculties, colleges, institutes and 2,700 academic staff.

It was approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2003. It is in the city of Chifeng, the birthplace of the Hong Shan cultures. In Uganda the most spoken language in the capital city is Luganda, followed by English, as all schools in Uganda use it in their studies due to the introduction of English during the colonial period. English is also the language of business and judicial matters. Most spoken after Luganda and English is Swahili. This language is more common in neighbouring Kenya and Tanzania. Swahili is taught in schools as an optional additional language and it is mostly spoken by the Ugandan army. In 2005, there were talks to include Swahili as the second official language as it was seen as neutral, however this is still not ratified by the government. Swahili is used among some communities bordering South Sudan and Kenya.
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a public university located in Ubungo District, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970, UEA split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

Education in Tanzania is provided by both the public and private sectors, starting with pre-primary education, followed by primary, secondary ordinary, secondary advanced, and ideally, university level education. Free and accessible education is a human right in Tanzania. The Tanzanian government began to emphasize the importance of education shortly after its independence in 1961. Curriculum is standardized by level, and it is the basis for the national examinations. Achievement levels are important, yet there are various causes of children not receiving the education that they need, including the need to help families with work, poor accessibility, and a variety of learning disabilities. While there is a lack of resources for special needs education, Tanzania has committed to inclusive education and attention on disadvantaged learners, as pointed out in the 2006 Education Sector Review AIDE-MEMORE. The government's National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty in 2005 heavily emphasized on education and literacy.
Baraza la Kiswahili la Taifa is a Tanzanian institution responsible with regulating and promoting the Kiswahili language.
Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA) is an undergraduate university dating back to the dawn of Tanzania's independence in 1961. It is located in Kigamboni District of Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. It took over the assets and functions of the former Kivukoni Academy of Social Sciences.
The International School of Zanzibar is a private international school located on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. As of 2018, the School educated students from over 29 countries, aged from 2 to 19 years, from pre-kindergarten, to Year 13. The official language, and language of instruction of the school is English. The academic programs are IPC, Cambridge International Lower Secondary, International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International AS/A-Level. Established in 1988, in 2018 there were approximately 200 students enrolled in the school.

Lumumba Secondary School is a public, coeducational secondary school in Saateni, Zanzibar, Tanzania. It is Zanzibar's largest secondary school, and has been called one of the best secondary schools in Zanzibar. From 1958 until the Zanzibar Revolution of 1964, the school was named in honor of King George VI.
Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University (SUMAIT University), formerly the University College of Education Zanzibar (UCEZ), was established in Tanzania in 1998 by the Africa Muslims Agency (AMA). Dr. Abdulrahman Hamoud Al-Sumait (1947–2013), for whom the university is named, was a founding member of the AMA. The university's main campus is located at Chukwani.
Taasisi ya Taaluma za Kiswahili, known by its acronym TATAKI, is a research body dedicated to the research of the Kiswahili language and literature at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
