Stuart Neil Aubrey (born 28 December 1990) [1] is an Australian politician and former electrician,who was elected as a Labor member for Scarborough in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly at the 2021 state election.
Stuart Aubrey was born on 28 December 1990 in Pinjarra,Western Australia,to Ronald Edward Aubrey,a mathematics teacher,and Christine Anne Aubrey,a disability support worker. He attended North Mandurah Primary School and Frederick Irwin Anglican School,completing up to year 11. He later did a Certificate IV in Adult Preparation Studies,which is equivalent to year 12,at Tuart College. [2]
Aubrey worked for almost seven years as a fly-in fly-out electrician in the resources industry. [3] [4] He joined the Labor party in 2011, [2] when he was 21. He has also worked as a Labor staffer,including for Roger Cook [5] and John Carey. [2]
In the 2021 Western Australian state election,Aubrey contested the electoral district of Scarborough as a Labor candidate,going up against former Liberal Party leader Liza Harvey. Scarborough was watched closely during the campaign,as it was held by the formal Liberal leader,and it was a possible seat for Labor to win. On 13 March 2021,Aubrey won the seat of Scarborough with a 16.2% swing towards him. [3] [4] [6] [7]
Aubrey is one of six Labor MP's in the current state parliament that is not factionally aligned as of 2021. [8]

In 1976,MacTiernan joined the Australian Labor Party,and at the 1993 Western Australian state election,she was elected to the Legislative Council's East Metropolitan Region. She became a shadow minister in October 1994,and she was transferred to the Legislative Assembly at the 1996 state election,winning the seat of Armadale.

The National Party of Australia (WA) Inc,branded The Nationals WA,is a political party in Western Australia. It is affiliated with the National Party of Australia but maintains a separate structure and identity. Since the 2021 state election,the Nationals WA is the senior party in an opposition alliance with the WA Liberal Party in the WA Parliament. Prior to the election,the National Party was sitting in the crossbench and the Liberal Party was the sole opposition party. The election resulted in the National Party winning more seats than the Liberal Party and gaining official opposition status. Liza Mary Harvey is an Australian politician who was the Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 2008 to 2021,representing the seat of Scarborough. She was a minister in the government of Colin Barnett,and in 2016 was appointed deputy premier,becoming the first woman to hold the position. She became leader of the opposition after being elected unopposed to replace Mike Nahan as state Liberal leader on 13 June 2019. On 22 November 2020,she resigned as Liberal leader and was replaced by Zak Kirkup. She lost her seat at the 2021 election.

The Western Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia held a leadership vote on 24 November 2020 to determine its leader. The election was conducted among Liberal Party members of the Parliament of Western Australia. It came after its previous leader,Liza Harvey,resigned following poor opinion polling. Deputy leader Bill Marmion also resigned on the same day. The main candidates touted ahead of the election were Dean Nalder,a member of parliament since 2013 and a minister in the Barnett Ministry,and Zak Kirkup,a member of parliament since 2017. Nalder declined to nominate for the leadership after it became clear he did not have the full support of the Liberal Party caucus. As a result,Kirkup won the leadership unopposed,becoming the state's leader of the opposition. Libby Mettam was elected unopposed as the deputy leader.
