David Joseph Kelly (born 1 July 1962) is an Australian politician who has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia since 2013,representing the seat of Bassendean. In the McGowan Ministry,he was Minister for Water,Minister for Fisheries,Minister for Forestry,Minister for Innovation and ICT,and Minister for Science.
Kelly was born in Perth,and graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts degree. [1] Prior to entering politics,he worked for a trade union,United Voice,for 20 years,including as state secretary for 10 years.
Kelly entered parliament at the 2013 state election,replacing the retiring member,Martin Whitely,in the safe Labor seat of Bassendean. At the time of his election,he was living in the suburb of Bayswater. [2] A month after entering parliament,Kelly was included in the reconstituted shadow ministry led by Mark McGowan. [3] He has been described as a "factional boss" and "left-faction powerbroker". [4] [5]
On 27 February 2022 Kelly became the first Western Australian politician to acknowledge he had tested positive to COVID-19,making the announcement via Twitter. [6]

She is best known for her role as the minister for planning and infrastructure during the construction of the Mandurah line. Born in Melbourne,she moved to Perth to study at the University of Western Australia,graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and later with a law degree. She worked for the Department of Employment before practising as a lawyer between 1986 and 1992. During this time,she also served on the Perth City Council. In 1976,MacTiernan joined the Australian Labor Party,and at the 1993 Western Australian state election,she was elected to the Legislative Council's East Metropolitan Region. She became a shadow minister in October 1994,and she was transferred to the Legislative Assembly at the 1996 state election,winning the seat of Armadale.

Davies was elected deputy leader of the Nationals in November 2013,and replaced Brendon Grylls as leader in March 2017 following his defeat at the 2017 state election. As a result of the Liberal Party's electoral wipeout at the 2021 state election,she became leader of the opposition after Premier Mark McGowan gave her party the official opposition party funding,the first member of her party to hold the role since Arthur Watts in 1947. The 2025 Western Australian state election is scheduled to be held on 8 March 2025 to elect members to the Parliament of Western Australia,where all 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 37 seats in the Legislative Council will be up for election.
The Western Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia held a leadership vote on 24 November 2020 to determine its leader. The election was conducted among Liberal Party members of the Parliament of Western Australia. It came after its previous leader,Liza Harvey,resigned following poor opinion polling. Deputy leader Bill Marmion also resigned on the same day. The main candidates touted ahead of the election were Dean Nalder,a member of parliament since 2013 and a minister in the Barnett Ministry,and Zak Kirkup,a member of parliament since 2017. Nalder declined to nominate for the leadership after it became clear he did not have the full support of the Liberal Party caucus. As a result,Kirkup won the leadership unopposed,becoming the state's leader of the opposition. Libby Mettam was elected unopposed as the deputy leader.
A leadership election for the Western Australian Labor Party occurred on 6 June 2023 following the resignation of party leader and premier of Western Australia Mark McGowan in June 2023. The three contenders to replace McGowan were Roger Cook,Amber-Jade Sanderson and Rita Saffioti. Saffioti withdrew on 30 May in exchange for being Cook's deputy,and Sanderson withdrew on 30 May,leaving Cook as the sole nominee for leader.
