David Anthony Edward Scaife (born 16 December 1988) [1] is an Australian politician, who was elected as a Labor member for Cockburn in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly at the 2021 state election.

Career

Scaife was an employment lawyer prior to entering politics. He worked as the legal practise director for Eureka Lawyers. [2] [3]

Politics

Scaife contested the electoral district of Murray-Wellington for Labor in 2013, but lost.

He later contested the electoral district of Cockburn for Labor at the 2021 state election, after its incumbent Labor member Fran Logan retired. He easily won the safe Labor seat, with 68.2% of the primary vote. [3]

Personal life

Scaife grew up in regional Western Australia and is married to Ellie Whiteaker, the Assistant State Secretary of WA Labor. He currently lives in Yangebup. [4]

The National Party of Australia (WA) Inc, branded The Nationals WA, is a political party in Western Australia. It is affiliated with the National Party of Australia but maintains a separate structure and identity. Since the 2021 state election, the Nationals WA was the senior party in an opposition alliance with WA Liberal Party in the WA Parliament. Prior to the election, the National Party was sitting in the crossbench and the Liberal Party was the sole opposition party. The election resulted in the National Party winning more seats than the Liberal Party and gaining official opposition status. 2018 Cottesloe state by-election

A by-election for the electoral district of Cottesloe in Western Australia took place on 17 March 2018. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of the Liberal Party member, Colin Barnett, on 5 February 2018. Barnett was the Premier of Western Australia from 23 September 2008 until 17 March 2017, when he was succeeded as Premier by Mark McGowan after the Labor Party defeated Barnett's Liberal government at the 2017 state election in March 2017. The by-election was won by the Liberal candidate David Honey.
