The Indian Police Service is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948,a year after India became independent from the British Empire.
Gazetted officers include all the Indian Police Service officers which are Group A officers of the cadre and all State Police Services officers of and above the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. All are arranged in a hierarchical order.

Om Prakash Singh is a 1983 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He was the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police,and had previously served as the Director General of CISF and Director General of NDRF.
Provincial Police Service,often abbreviated to as PPS,is the state civil service for policing of Uttar Pradesh Police comprising Group A and Group B posts. It is also the feeder service for Indian Police Service in the state.

Mukul Goel is a retired Indian civil servant. He is the former Director General civil defence at Indian state Uttar Pradesh and had previously served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Border Security Force. He was suspended by the erstwhile Mayawati's government in 2007 for alleged irregularities in police recruitment. He is 1987 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. On 11 May 2022 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removed Director General of Police Mukul Goel from his post for inefficiency and neglecting his work. Thereafter,he worked as DGP at UP Police.
Ashok Kumar is a retired 1989 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Uttarakhand cadre,who served as the 11th Director General of Uttarakhand Police and was succeeded by Abhinav Kumar 1996 batch Indian Police Service officer.He was appointed as Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Sports University of Haryana on 28 February 2024 and served there till 1 March 2027.

Manoj Malaviya is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service officer who is currently the State Police Advisor (SPA),West Bengal,an ex-cadre post equivalent to DGP rank. Before this he served as the Director General of West Bengal Police from August 2021 to December 2023. He has held several important positions in his career,including Additional Commissioner of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security in Delhi,and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kolkata Police. He was promoted to the rank of Director General in 2017 and held the post till 2023.
Bijaya Kumar Maurya is an Indian Police Services officer. He is currently serving as the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police's Home Guards wing. He is a 1990 batch IPS officer,who has previously served as Additional Director General (logistics) in the Uttar Pradesh Police as well. Maurya was given additional charge of Director General in August 2022,while he was serving as Director General logistics.
Abhinav Kumar is an Indian Police Service officer and the current Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand Police. He is the 12th DGP of the Himalayan state. He is the youngest appointed DGP in India at the age of 50.
