Sunnyside is a neighborhood in easternmost East Chicago, Indiana, in the Indiana Harbor section near Cline Avenue. It is unique among East Chicago neighborhoods for its suburban character, including a curvilinear street grid. [2] The population is 55% African American and 42% Hispanic. [1] The neighborhood has one of the highest rates of owner-occupied homes in the city. [1]
East Chicago is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The population was 29,698 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Marktown, Clayton Mark's planned worker community.
Indiana Harbor or The Harbor is the portion of East Chicago, Indiana located east of the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal, as opposed to "East Chicago proper" which is located west of the canal. It contains several distinct neighborhoods, including New Addition, Sunnyside, and North Harbor. The Calumet neighborhood is west of the Canal but sometimes considered distinct from "Indiana Harbor proper".

The neighborhood was built over the first half of the 20th century by Inland Steel as employee housing. [1] The first 100 houses, brick duplexes housing 200 families, [3] were built in 1918. [2] Another 100 units were built in the 1940s in response to the post-World War II housing shortage. [2] Inland Steel retained ownership, renting the homes to employees, until 1969 when it began selling them off. [2] Some additional homes were built in the 1970s. [2]

Gregg Charles Popovich is an American professional basketball coach. He is the head coach and President of the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Taking over as coach of the Spurs in 1996, Popovich is the longest tenured active coach in both the NBA and all major sports leagues in the United States. He is often called "Coach Pop" or simply "Pop."
Timothy Cook Draper is an American venture capital investor, and in 1985, the founder of the firm that would become Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ). He also founded Draper Associates and Draper University. In July 2014, Draper received wide coverage for his purchase at a US Marshals Service auction of seized bitcoins from the Silk Road marketplace website. He also spent in excess of $5 million to push a ballot initiative to divide California into three smaller states, which has met the signature threshold but was removed from the ballot by a decision in the Supreme Court of California.
