Suzanne Elizabeth Innes-Stubb (born 25 January 1970) is a British-Finnish attorney and the wife of Alexander Stubb, President of Finland. [1] [2] She is the first person of overseas origin to become the spouse of the President of Finland. [3] Innes-Stubb worked as Head of Global Compliance at KONE. [4]

Early life

Suzanne Innes was born in Solihull, England. Her mother is from Essex and her father is of Scottish descent. Both of her parents were teachers. Her brothers still farm their mother's family farm near Stansted Airport. [5] [6]

Innes studied law, French and German at the University of Surrey and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1992. She went on to study European Union law at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. She earned her LLM degree in 1995. [7] [4]

Career

While living in Brussels, Innes-Stubb worked for the law firm White & Case since 1999. When the family moved to Helsinki, she started working for the firm's Helsinki office. [4]

In 2014 Innes-Stubb started working as Head of Legal for the Finnish media group Sanoma. Innes-Stubb began working for the Finnish elevator engineering company KONE as the Head of Global Compliance. [4] In March 2024, she resigned in order to start in a new position at Aalto University starting September 2024. [8]

Personal life

Innes met Stubb while studying law at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium in 1994. They were engaged in 1997 and married in 1998. The couple has two children (born in 2001 and 2004). [6] [5]

The family lives in Westend, Espoo. [9]

In addition to English, Innes-Stubb speaks French, German, Finnish and Swedish. [10]

Anton Salonen is a child with Russian-Finnish dual citizenship involved in an international child custody dispute between his parents. The Finnish-born child was first abducted by his Estonian Russian mother in 2008 and taken to Russia. In turn the boy was abducted by his father in 2009 and smuggled back to Finland with the help of Finnish diplomats stationed at the Finnish consulate in Saint Petersburg. The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between Finland and Russia. The Finnish diplomat who helped to abduct the child was dismissed from the Finnish Consulate and Russia has declared him persona non grata.

Juha Leevi Antero Tapio is a Finnish singer, songwriter and guitarist. His album Mitä silmät ei nää (2003) sold gold and the album Kaunis ihminen (2006) reached platinum. He is married to Raija Mattila, and together they have two sons, Mikael and Akseli.

Anne Maritta Brunila was the Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Fortum Corporation from 2009 to 2013. She has a P.h.D in Economics and Business Administration from Helsinki School of Economics. Brunila has been described as "one of the most influential women in the Finnish economy."

Göran Stubb is a Finnish ice hockey executive. He is the National Hockey League (NHL) Director of European Scouting. Stubb began working as the chairman of IFK Helsinki from 1961 to 1975 before joining the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 1976 as their Managing Director. After serving as the Secretary General for the 1982 Ice Hockey World Championships, Stubb began European Sports Service, a European scouting service, in 1983 following urging from Jim Gregory, then Director of NHL Central Scouting. This became the first major European scouting association with the NHL.

Presidential elections were held in Finland on 28 January 2024, with a second round held on 11 February. Voters elected a president of the Republic for a six-year term. Incumbent president Sauli Niinistö was term-limited and ineligible to run for re-election, having served the maximum two terms, ensuring that the president elected would be the country's thirteenth.
