Career

20162021: Career beginnings and record label deal

Swayvee began his musical career under the stage name Fatal Emcee, participating in street rap battles, at the age of eleven. [5] He cited his biggest influences, which included Mr Eazi and Runtown, Burna Boy and Wizkid, and Canadian rapper Tory Lanez. [6] In 2016, he registered for a music competition at Nectar Studios in Uyo, marking his first major exposure. He finished as the first runner-up and had only two songs at the time. [7] He later adopted the moniker Swayzee before transitioning to Swayvee. In 2018, Swayvee signed a recording contract with Etins Records. In 2020, he was featured on label mate Yarden's debut single "Wild", [8] alongside a music video. [9]

2021present

In April 2021, Swayvee released "DMS". [10] In late 2021, Swayvee officially left Etins Records to pursue his music independently and create his record label, Weirdsid3. [11] In December that same year, he released his extended play titled Lost Files, a compilation of unreleased and new tracks.

In 2023, Swayvee dropped "Para", a street drill sound, a fusion of hip-hop/rap, in collaboration with Nigerian rapper and singer Zhus Jdo. [12] In February 2024, Swayvee was featured as the main artist on Urban High, a collaborative album by PressPlay, alongside co-artists like Yarden, Morien, and Yunos. [13] In September 2024, Swayvee dropped two singles titled "Position" and "Over You". [14]

In March 2025, Swayvee released "Us" through Maxtreme Inc and Warner Music Africa. [15] The song went viral on social media and became a viral sound on TikTok. It peaked at number 15 on TurnTable charts, [16] and also peaked at the number two spot on Apple Music RnB charts. On Spotify, it reached the number one spot on Viral 50 in Nigeria and Viral 50 in South Africa, amassing over 2 million streams. [17] "Us" received airplay on national radio stations like Soundcity FM, The Beat 99.9 FM, Urban Radio, and Cool FM. [18]
