The 2022 Asian Games, officially the 19th Asian Games and also known as Hangzhou 2022, was a continental multi-sport event which was held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The games marked the 110th anniversary since the creation of the first continental event, starting with the 1913 Far Eastern Championship Games.
Wang Shun is a Chinese competitive swimmer. A versatile medley swimmer, he became the first Asian male swimmer to win a gold medal at the men's 200m individual medley at the Olympic Games when he came in first at the 2020 Summer Olympics men's 200 metre individual medley. He is also the first swimmer from China to win a gold medal in an Olympic men's medley swimming event. He had earlier won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Zhang Yufei is a Chinese competitive swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Considered one of the most promising swimmers in the international scene, she produced a tally of thirty-seven medals in her swimming career, spanning the Youth Olympics, Asian Games, World Championships and the Summer Olympics. In 2023, she was named as the most valuable player in the women's division, in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Qin Haiyang is a Chinese swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke and individual medley. He is the current world record holder in the 200m breaststroke. At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Qin became the first swimmer in history to win all three breaststroke events at a single edition of the championships. Qin was also the former world junior record holder in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley. In 2023, Qin became the first Asian swimmer to be named as the Male Swimmer of the Year by World Aquatics. In the same year, Qin was also announced as the 'most valuable player' of the 2022 Asian Games.
Chinese Taipei is scheduled to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. "Chinese Taipei" is the name designated for use by Taiwan when participating in certain international organizations and almost all sporting events, including the Olympic Games. Neither the common name "Taiwan" nor the official name "Republic of China" may be used officially, due to opposition from the People's Republic of China. It will also be the nation's eleventh consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.
