He was the 2011 and 2013 100-metre freestyle world champion, and holds the record for the fifth fastest swim in history in the 100-metre freestyle, with a time of 47.10, which until 2016 also stood as the fastest swim in textile swimwear material.

In the 200 metre butterfly, he was 6th place at the 2020 Tokyo Games; twice a finalist in World Championships; twice Pan-Pacific runner-up, and three-time Pan American Games champion. He is currently an athlete at Unisanta, sponsored by Mormaii, LD Sports, and CDE. He is also one of the representatives of the Aqua Centurions team in the International Swimming League.
