He was a two term Member of Parliament, representing Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha the upper house of India's Parliament as a member of the Indian National Congress. He even served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of the earlier Madras Legislative Assembly and Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Rayachoti. He was also elected as MLC by Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.
