TBV Lemgo is a handball club from Lemgo, Germany, and is competing in the Handball-Bundesliga.
The ascent to one of the best German handball clubs was slow but steady. In the year the Bundesliga was founded, the club was still in the Oberliga, promotion to the 2. Handball-Bundesliga in 1981/82, and since the 1983/84 season, TBV Lemgo has been playing in the top class, growing steadily for more than a decade. developed into a top team. Names such as Lajos Mocsai (coach since 1989), László Marosi (1990–1999 players) or Daniel Stephan (1994–2008 players) are associated with this. They won their first major title in 1995, winning the DHB-Pokal, followed in 1996 by the EHF Cup Winners' Cup. Lajos Mocsai finished his coaching job at TBV with this title. 1997 was the most successful year in the history of the club, led by his successor, Yuri Shevtsov. For the first time in a season, he was able to celebrate a championship title, a cup win and a Super Cup win. The team won the Handball-Bundesliga twice (1997, 2003), the DHB-Pokal 4 times (1995, 1997, 2002, 2020), the DHB-Supercup 4 times (1997, 1999, 2002, 2003), 1 time for the EHF Cup Winner's Cup (1996) and 2 times for the EHF Cup (2006, 2010).

The Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) is the top German professional handball league. From 2007 to 2012, the league was sponsored by Toyota and was officially called the Toyota Handball-Bundesliga. In 2012 the Deutsche Kreditbank AG (DKB) became the new sponsor. As of 2024, the latest league sponsor is Daikin and the official name has consequently been changed to Daikin Handball-Bundesliga. The winners of the respective season are the official German handball champions. The HBL is headquartered in Dortmund.

They play home matches at Flens-Arena. Since forming in 1990, the club has been one of Germany's most successful teams domestically and in European tournaments. The club is best known for winning the EHF Champions League in 2014 by defeating arch-rivals THW Kiel in the final 30–28.
THW Kiel is a professional handball club from Kiel, Germany. Currently, they compete in the Handball-Bundesliga and are the record champion with 23 titles.
Alfreð Gíslason is an Icelandic handball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the German men's national team. He won titles in Iceland, Germany and Spain as a player before starting his coaching career in 1991 with Icelandic team KA as a player-coach. He later coached German club SC Magdeburg, where he won the Bundesliga and the EHF Champions League, the Icelandic men's national team and German club THW Kiel, where he won six Bundesliga, six DHB-Pokal and two EHF Champions League titles. Alfreð was the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 1989 and inducted into the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame in 2019.

Zvonimir Serdarušić is a Croatian former professional handball coach and player who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics for Yugoslavia. In May 1998, he also acquired German citizenship.
Lars Roslyng Christiansen is a former Danish team handball player. He is European Champion, winning the 2008 European Men's Handball Championship and 2012 European Men's Handball Championship with the Danish national handball team. He was top scorer at the 2008 championship together with Nikola Karabatic and Ivano Balić, and was also voted into the 2008 All-star team.
