The sports centre was completed in 2011. It is used mostly for association football and athletics competitions, and hosted some events at the 2011 Summer Universiade.

Basketball at the 2011 Summer Universiade was scheduled to be held from August 13 to August 22 in Shenzhen, China. In total, 40 teams will compete in the 2011 Summer Universiade.

Yunus Sarı is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner competing in the welterweight division. He is a member of Ulaştırmaspor, a club of the Ministry of Transport.Athlete is student of physical education and sports at Selçuk University in Konya. His two brothers Ali and Talha are also successful taekwondo practitioners.

Tennis was contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 14 to August 21 at the Longgang Tennis Center and the Shenzhen Tennis Center in Shenzhen, China. Men's and women's singles, men's and women's team, and men's, women's, and mixed doubles events were contested.

Furkan Asena Aydın is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner competing in the middleweight division.

Badminton will be contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 16 to August 22 at the Gymnasium of Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology in Shenzhen, China. Men's and women's singles, men's, women's, and mixed doubles, and mixed team events will be contested. The training venue was held at the Badminton Hall of Longgang Sports Center.

Fencing was contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 13 to August 18 at the No. 9 Hall in the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China. Men's and women's individual and team events were held in the épée, sabre, and foil categories.

Judo was contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 13 to August 17 at the No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 Pavilions at the Shenzhen Conference and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China.

Diving was a sport at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 16 to August 22 at the Shenzhen Swimming and Diving Gym in Shenzhen, China. Men's and women's 1 and 3 metre springboard, 10 metre platform, synchronized 3 and 10 metre platform, and team events will be held.

Chess was contested at the 2011 Summer Universiade from August 15 to August 21 at the Meihua Hall of the Shenzhen Conference and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China. Men's and women's individual and mixed team competitions were held. It was the first time that chess was included in a Universiade.

The 2021 Summer Universiade, the XXXI Summer World University Games, commonly known as the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, is an upcoming multi-sport event sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), scheduled to be held from 28 July to 8 August 2023 and will have Chengdu, Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China as main host city. These will be the fourth edition of the Games to be hosted by China PR, and the first edition to be branded under the "Summer World University Games" title rather than "Summer Universiade". it will also be the fifteenth time the FISU World University Games are held in Asia.
