The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire is responsible for the organization and governance of worldwide sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25. It was founded in 1949 as the world governing body of national university sports organizations and currently has 174 member associations from five continents. The 2021 Summer Universiade, the XXXI Summer World University Games, commonly known as the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, is an upcoming multi-sport event sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), scheduled to be held from 28 July to 8 August 2023 and will have Chengdu, Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China as main host city. These will be the fourth edition of the Games to be hosted by China PR, and the first edition to be branded under the "Summer World University Games" title rather than "Summer Universiade". it will also be the fifteenth time the FISU World University Games are held in Asia.

Ukraine was not represented in badminton, golf, sailing, and water polo.
