Taekwondo made its first appearance at the Olympics as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. The opening ceremony featured a mass demonstration of taekwondo, with hundreds of adults and children performing moves in unison. Taekwondo was again a demonstration sport at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Taekwondo became a full medal sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, and has been a sport in the Olympic games since then.

Jade Louise Jones is a Welsh taekwondo athlete. She is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the women's 57 kg category, and the 2019 World champion, 2016, 2018 and 2021 European champion and both 2015 European Games and 2023 European Games champion at the same weight, the only double gold medalist at her weight in the history of those Games. In 2012, she won Britain's first taekwondo Olympic gold medal. Jones was at the time the reigning Youth Olympic champion in the girls' 55 kg category, winning gold for Great Britain in 2010.

On Sunday 25 July 2021, at just 18-years-old, she became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in taekwondo, defeating Tatiana Minina of Russia 25 to 17. She competed in the women's featherweight event at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Ulugbek Rashitov is an Uzbekistani taekwondo practitioner. He won the gold medal in the Men's 68 kg event at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the 58 kg event at the Military World Games held in Wuhan, China.
Mohammad Ali Khosravi is an Iranian taekwondoka. He began taekwondo in 2010 under the supervision of Mehdi Mohammadzadeh, then in 2013 he became a member of the Iran national taekwondo team. Mohammad Ali Khosravi achieved the gold medal of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires.
