Tennis was inducted at the Youth Olympic Games at the inaugural edition in 2010. The program included four competitions: Boys' singles, Boys' doubles, Girls' singles and Girls' doubles. The 2014 edition added a Mixed doubles event. Players from different National Olympic Committees are allowed to participate in doubles events.

Viktoria Komova won most medals, with 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal.

Tennis at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics lasted from August 18 until August 25. For the Singles competitions, all matches were determined through a best-of-three tie-break sets. For the Doubles competitions, all matches were determined by two tie-break sets and a match tie-break game in place of a third set. There were competitions for boys' singles, boys' doubles, girls' singles and girls' doubles. It took place at the Kallang Tennis Centre.

Vladimir Viktorovich Korotkov is a retired Soviet tennis player who won three Junior Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon Boys Singles in 1965, 1966 and the French Juniors in 1966. He also won the mixed doubles at the 1968 Summer Olympics where tennis was a "demonstration sport". He won the men's doubles event at the 1973 Summer Universiade and the 1977 USSR singles championship. From 1981 until his retirement in 1996, Korotkov was coaching at several sports clubs.
