The Indian Premier League (IPL), also officially known as TATA IPL for sponsorship reasons, is a professional men's Twenty20 cricket league, contested by ten teams based out of seven Indian cities and three Indian states. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. It is usually held between March and May of every year and has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.

The team served a two-year suspension from the IPL starting July 2015 due to the involvement of their owners in the 2013 IPL betting case, and won the title in its comeback season of 2018. The team is captained by MS Dhoni and coached by Stephen Fleming. They are the current defending champions, having won the 2021 IPL season. In January 2022, CSK became India's first unicorn sports enterprise.

V Chennai Warriors is a tennis team representing the Indian city of Chennai in the Champions Tennis League. The team was initially supposed to take part in the 2014 Champions Tennis League but due to unavoidable circumstances they backed out at the last moment and eventually the Hyderabad Aces went on to replace them in the 2014 edition. On 14 November 2015, the V Chennai Warriors franchise was unveiled by Vijay Amritraj, founder of the Champions Tennis League. The team is owned by Prabhu Deva, a renowned actor and Ishari K Ganesh, founder Chairman and Chancellor of the Vels University in Chennai. The players who represented this team in the 2015 season were Rainer Schuettler, Fernando Verdasco, Heather Watson and Vishnu Vardhan. The 2015 tournament began on 23 November and ended on 6 December with the V Chennai Warriors finishing last in Group B with one win and three losses from four games. Group B also had the likes of Hyderabad Aces and Nagpur Orangers.
The 2018 season of the Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 11, was the eleventh season of the IPL, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the BCCI in 2007. The season, which was held from 7 April to 27 May, saw the return of the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals after serving two years of suspension for the involvement of their respective owners in the 2013 IPL betting case. Star Sports purchased the media rights at ₹16,347.5 crore for five years starting from 2018. The tagline was Best vs Best.
The 2020 Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 13 and branded as Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020, was the thirteenth season of the IPL, a professional Twenty20 cricket (T20) league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The tournament was originally scheduled to commence on 29 March 2020, but was suspended until 15 April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on 14 April that the lockdown in India would last until at least 3 May 2020, the BCCI suspended the tournament indefinitely. On 2 August 2020, it was announced that the tournament would be played between 19 September and 10 November 2020 in the United Arab Emirates.
