The Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord was an accord signed in Colombo on 29 July 1987,between Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sri Lankan President J. R. Jayewardene. The accord was expected to resolve the Sri Lankan Civil War by enabling the thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka and the Provincial Councils Act of 1987. Under the terms of the agreement,Colombo agreed to a devolution of power to the provinces,the Sri Lankan troops were to be withdrawn to their barracks in the north and the Tamil rebels were to surrender their arms.
Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) was the Indian military contingent performing a peacekeeping operation in Sri Lanka between 1987 and 1990. Black July was an anti-Tamil pogrom that occurred in Sri Lanka during July 1983. The pogrom was premeditated,and was finally triggered by a deadly ambush on 23 July 1983,which caused the death of 13 Sri Lanka Army soldiers,by the Tamil militant group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Although initially orchestrated by members of the ruling UNP,the pogrom soon escalated into mass violence with significant public participation.
Kathiravelu Nythiananda Devananda,commonly known as Douglas Devananda,is a Sri Lankan Tamil politician,Cabinet Minister and leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party. Originally a Sri Lanka Tamil militant who fought against the Sri Lankan government for an independent Tamil Eelam,he became a pro-government paramilitary leader and politician. Due to his strong opposition to and vocal criticism of the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam,they unsuccessfully tried to assassinate him over 10 times. Devananda is a proclaimed offender in India and is wanted on charges of murder,attempt to murder,rioting,unlawful assembly and kidnapping. He was sworn in as Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on 22 November 2019.
Nadarajah Raviraj was a Sri Lankan Tamil lawyer and politician. He was Mayor of Jaffna in 2001 and a Member of Parliament for Jaffna District from 2001 to 2006. A member of the Tamil National Alliance,he was shot dead on 10 November 2006 in Colombo.
Gaasinather Gangaser Ponnambalam was a Sri Lankan lawyer and politician. Leader of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress,he was a presidential candidate in 1982. He was shot dead in January 2000 in an assassination many suspect to be ordered by President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

Uthayan is a Tamil language Sri Lankan daily newspaper published by New Uthayan Publication (Private) Limited,part of the Uthayan Group of Newspapers. It was founded in 1985 and is published from Jaffna. Its sister newspapers is the Colombo based Sudar Oli. Uthayan was the only newspaper published from Jaffna which did not cease publication due to the civil war. The newspaper has been attacked several times,a number of its staff have been murdered by paramilitary groups and other forces,and it regularly receives threats.
Deshamanya Gamani Corea was a Sri Lankan economist,civil servant and diplomat. He was also the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1974 to 1984,Ceylon's Ambassador to the EEC,Belgium,Luxembourg and the Netherlands,the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs of Ceylon and the Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ceylon.
Holy See –Sri Lanka relations are foreign relations between the Holy See and Sri Lanka. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1976. The Holy See has a nunciature in Colombo. As of December 2011,Ms. Tamara Kunanayakam,who is Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva,was the concurrently accredited ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Holy See. She presented her Credentials on 15 December 2011 to Pope Benedict XVI. The Apostolic Nunciature of Sri Lanka has been vacant since October 2013.
