Tarisai Musakanda (born 31 October 1994) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who plays for the national cricket team. [1] He was part of Zimbabwe's squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Domestic career

He made both his List A and his first-class debut in 2014.

In December 2018, during the opening round of the 2018–19 Logan Cup, Musakanda scored his maiden century in first-class cricket. [2] In December 2020, he was named as the captain of the Rhinos for the 2020–21 Logan Cup. [3] [4]

International career

In October 2016 he was included in Zimbabwe's Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka. [5] The following month he was included in Zimbabwe's One Day International (ODI) squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka and the West Indies. [6] He made his ODI debut in the final of the tri-series against Sri Lanka. [7]

In February 2017, he was named in an academy squad by Zimbabwe Cricket to tour England later that year. [8] He made his Test debut for Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka in their one-off Test in Colombo on 14 July 2017. [9]

In June 2018, he was named in a Zimbabwe Select team for warm-up fixtures ahead of the 2018 Zimbabwe Tri-Nation Series. [10] Later the same month, he was named in a 22-man preliminary Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the tri-nation series. [11] He made his T20I debut for Zimbabwe against Pakistan on 1 July 2018, during the tri-series. [12]

In September 2018, he was named as the captain of Zimbabwe's squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup tournament. [13] He was the leading run-scorer for Zimbabwe in the tournament, with 182 runs in four matches. [14]

Personal life

In February 2022, Musakanda was charged with culpable homicide after failing to report a road accident in which a pedestrian was killed. [15] The pedestrian was later identified as Gwinyai Chingoka, a Zimbabwean tennis player who had represented Zimbabwe at the Davis Cup. [16] [17] Musakanda was convicted in August 2022 and fined 30,000 Zimbabwean dollars. The judge said he had failed to take proper care while driving, since it was dark and raining, while the victim was wearing dark colours. [18]

Sri Lankan national cricket team toured Zimbabwe from October to November 2016. The tour was originally scheduled to consist of a two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a single Twenty20 international (T20I), but in September 2016 the one-day matches were replaced by a triangular series featuring Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and the West Indies and that the tour of Zimbabwe would be reduced to just the two Test matches. Sri Lanka won the series 2–0.

Brandon Anesu Mavuta is a Zimbabwean cricketer who plays for the Zimbabwe national cricket team. In January 2016, he was named in Zimbabwe's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his international debut for Zimbabwe in July 2018, against Australia, in a Twenty20 International.

The 2016–17 Zimbabwe Tri-Series was a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament that was held in Zimbabwe in November 2016. It was a tri-nation series between the national representative cricket teams of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. The Sri Lankan team were originally scheduled to tour Zimbabwe for two Tests, three ODIs and one Twenty20 International (T20I). However, the ODIs and T20I were replaced by this tri-series.

The 2018 Zimbabwe Tri-Nation Series was a cricket tournament held from 1 to 8 July 2018 in Zimbabwe. It was a tri-nation series between Australia, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, with all the matches played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) at the Harare Sports Club. In the fourth T20I, Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets, therefore Australia and Pakistan qualified for the final. Pakistan defeated Australia in the final by six wickets to win the series.

The Pakistan cricket team toured Zimbabwe in April and May 2021 to play two Tests and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The tour of Zimbabwe followed on from Pakistan's tour of South Africa. On 28 March 2021, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the tour itinerary, with all the matches being played behind closed doors in Harare.

Gwinyai Chingoka was a Zimbabwean tennis player who represented Zimbabwe at the Davis Cup. He was known as Shumba in sporting circles due to his stamina and strength while playing tennis. His father Paul Chingoka was a President of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and President of Tennis Zimbabwe. His uncle Douglas Chingoka was a basketball player and football player who played as a striker for Dynamos F.C..
