Tata Institute of Social Science Hyderabad, also known as TISS Hyderabad, is a social sciences college located in Hyderabad, Telangana. [1]

History

TISS Hyderabad was established in 2012 as an off-campus institution at the invitation of the former government of Andhra Pradesh.

Campus

The current location is in Brahmanapally Road, Turkayamjal, Nagarjuna Sagar Road, Hyderabad. A fully-fledged campus is under construction in 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land in Kothur, Mahabubnagar.

Public policy school

Public Policy schools are typically university programs which teach students policy analysis, policy studies, public policy, political economy, urban planning, public administration, public affairs, and public management. Public policy schools typically train students in two streams. The more practical stream treats the master's degree as a terminal degree, which trains students to work as policy analysts in governments, think tanks and consulting firms. A more theoretical stream aims to train students who are aiming to go on to complete doctoral studies, with the goal of becoming professors of public policy or researchers.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a multi-campus public research university in Mumbai, India. It is Asia's oldest institute for professional social work education and was founded in 1936 in then Bombay Presidency of British India as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. In 1944, the institute was officially renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and in 1964, the Government of India declared TISS as deemed university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

The TERI School of Advanced Studies is a higher education institute in New Delhi, India which specialises in the field of sustainable development. It was established in 1998 by TERI. In 1999, the TERI School of Advanced Studies was granted the 'Deemed to be University' status by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Azim Premji University

Azim Premji University was established in Karnataka by the Azim Premji University Act 2010 as a not-for-profit University and is recognized by The University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2F.

Sankar Datta

Dr. Sankar Datta, is an Indian academic & professional development worker. He has been engaged in rural livelihood promotion / support activities for more than three decades since the early 1980s. Most of his field work has been in the undulating terrains of central India, from Chhota Udaipur in the west to Jharkhand in the east inhabited by various tribal groups.

National Institute of Advanced Studies

National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) is a premier institute in India engaged in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research in natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. It was founded by J. R. D. Tata for providing an avenue for administrators, managers and social leaders for interaction and exchange of information with notable academics in the areas of science, arts and humanities. With these objectives, the institute conducts multi-level research programmes and mentors talented doctoral students. The institution, based in Bengaluru, in the south Indian state of Karnataka, started functioning on 20 June 1988 with Dr. Raja Ramanna as its founder director.

Padmini Swaminathan is an Indian feminist economist. She is the current Chairperson of the Centre for Livelihoods at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad. She has also served as the Director of the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) and held the Chair for Regional Studies of the Reserve Bank of India at MIDS until her retirement in 2011. Swaminathan studies industrial organization, labour, education and health from a gender perspective.

TISS Mumbai

TISS was established in 1936 as Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work in Mumbai. It was renamed to its current name Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1944. TISS Mumbai is the main campus of the TISS. In the year 1964, it was deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. TISS Mumbai provides various M.A., M.Phil & Ph.D programs. Over the years, TISS Mumbai is well known for its contribution through research in social work, social sciences, human resources management & health systems.
