Tennis Club Odense is a Danish sporting club in Odense, Denmark. Founded in 1889 as part of Odense Boldklub, Tennis Club Odense is the oldest tennis club on the Danish island Funen. In 1996, the club withdrew from Odense Boldklub and founded the independent tennis club, operating under its current name since 2007.
Tennis Club Odense is a member of Funen Tennis Association (FTU) and the Danish Tennis Association (DTF), the governing bodies of Funen and Danish lawn tennis, respectively. It has 13 outdoor courts (12 of which are clay courts), but despite being the largest tennis club in Denmark's third largest city, it has had no permanent indoor courts since 2004. Since 2007, however, members of Tennis Club Odense have played indoor tennis in the club's temporary facilities in a local warehouse. Nonetheless, the local authorities have promised building six indoor courts before 2014.
Internationally, the club has hosted the annual ITF Junior Outdoor Cup Odense since 2010, and throughout the 1990s, the club also hosted Funen Open, a major tournament on the ITF Men's Circuit. In 2008, Tennis Club Odense played a major role in organizing of the 2008 Nordea Danish Open – the forerunner for the annual Danish WTA tournament in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Despite being born in Odense, the former world no. 1 on the WTA Tour, Caroline Wozniacki, has never played for or in Tennis Club Odense. Nevertheless, the most successful Danish male tennis player of the 2000s, Kristian Pless, started his career in the club. On a national level, Tennis Club Odense is one of the most successful Danish tennis clubs, winning the bronze medal at the Danish Team Championship in 2009.
Tennis Club Odense is the oldest tennis club on Funen. In 1894, the first permanent clay courts were placed near Munke Mose, a local swamp in Odense. In 1933, the construction of indoor facilities was finished, but ten years later, the facilities burned down. There was not found a replacement until 1964. Although the new indoor facilities were quickly considered obsolete, the two indoor courts surrounded by a primitive plastic cloth were in operation until 2004, when they were completely worn down.
In 1996, the tennis department decided to withdraw from Odense Boldklub (OB), one of the most successful Danish football clubs of all time. The departure was seen as a reaction to the primitive indoor facilities and the fact that the club had little ability in attracting its own sponsors. From 1996 to 2006, the tennis club was known as OB Tennis.
Tennis Team Fyn, an extensive talent development project, was launched in 2004 by Tennis Club Odense and other local partners in order to generate more talented young tennis players on Funen.
In 2007, the tennis club changed its name to Tennis Club Odense.
Odense is the third largest city in Denmark and the largest city on the island of Funen. As of 1 January 2022, the city proper had a population of 180,863 while Odense Municipality had a population of 205,978, making it the fourth largest municipality in Denmark. Eurostat and OECD have used a definition for the Metropolitan area of Odense, which includes all municipalities in the Province of Funen, with a total population of 504,066 as of 1 July 2022
A tennis court is the venue where the sport of tennis is played. It is a firm rectangular surface with a low net stretched across the centre. The same surface can be used to play both doubles and singles matches. A variety of surfaces can be used to create a tennis court, each with its own characteristics which affect the playing style of the game.
Thomas Lund Helveg is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a right-back. He began and ended his career with Odense Boldklub in the Danish Superliga, with whom he won the 1989 Danish championship. The most prominent periods of his career were four years at Udinese and five years with club A.C. Milan. With Milan he won the 1999 Serie A championship and 2003 UEFA Champions League tournament.
Odense Boldklub is a Danish professional football club based in the city Odense. The club has won three Danish championships and five Danish Cup trophies. OB play in the Danish Superliga and their home field is Nature Energy Park. OB's clubhouse is located in Ådalen near Odense River.
Odense Stadium is an association football stadium in the Bolbro district of Odense, Denmark. Nicknamed Folkets Teater by Jack Johnson, it has been the home ground of Odense Boldklub since the 1940s and has previously hosted select matches for FC Fyn (2011–2012), Boldklubben 1909, Boldklubben 1913 and Odense Boldklub Kvinde Elite during their tenures in the higher ranking leagues. With a current capacity of 15,790, it is the fifth largest football stadium of any football team in Denmark. It is part of the sports complex, known as Odense Sports Park, owned by Odense Municipality and run by the company of Odense Idrætspark.
The Brighton International was a tennis tournament held in Brighton, UK. It was a WTA Tour event from 1978–1995 and an ATP Tour event from 1996-2000, upon the discontinuation of the women's tournament. The women's event was held in October.
SfB-Oure FA, is an association football club based in the town of Svendborg, Denmark, that competes in the Danish 3rd Division, the fourth tier of the Danish football league system. Founded in 2018 as an elite superstructure of Svendborg fB and Oure FA, it is affiliated to DBU Funen. The team plays its home matches at Høje Bøge Stadium where it has been based since its foundation.
The Danish Open was a professional women's tennis tournament played 2010–12 on indoor hard courts in Farum, Denmark north of Copenhagen. The event was affiliated with the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), and is an International-level tournament on the WTA Tour. The tournament may be viewed as a continuation of the ITF event 2008 Nordea Danish Open in Odense. A plan to change surface to red clay in 2012, still played indoors in Farum, was dropped due to the cost.
The ATP Masters is an annual series of nine tennis tournaments featuring the top-ranked players on the ATP Tour since its inception in 1990. The ATP Masters tournaments along with the Grand Slam tournaments and the Year-end Championships make up the most coveted trophies on the annual ATP Tour calendar, in addition to the Olympics, hence they are collectively known as the 'Big Titles'.
The Copa Oster is a tournament for female professional tennis players played on outdoor clay courts. The event is classified as a WTA 125s tournament. It was held annually in Cali, Colombia, from 2008 to 2013. The first edition of the tournament was held in Bogotá in 2007. After a ten year hiatus, the tournament returned to the Challenger Circuit in 2023.
Boldklubben Marienlyst, commonly known as BK Marienlyst, Marienlyst, or BM, is an association football club based in Odense, Denmark, that competes in the Denmark Series, the fourth tier of the Danish football league system. Founded in 1922, it is affiliated to the regional DBU Funen football association. The team plays its home matches at Marienlystcentret, which has a capacity of 1,200. The club recognises itself as the "eternal Funen Series club", and has only played a few season in the higher divisions.
The Rio Open, also known as the Rio Open presented by Claro for sponsorship reasons, is a tennis event on the ATP Tour and former WTA International Tournaments event. The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the only ATP Tour 500 event in South America and the only ATP Tour event in Brazil.
The L'Open 35 de Saint-Malo is a French tournament for professional female tennis players played on outdoor clay courts. The event was upgraded from the ITF Women's Circuit to the WTA 125K series in 2021. It was held in Dinan between 1996 and 2007. The tournament has been held since 1996 and since 2008 in Saint-Malo.
The 2015–16 Odense Boldklub season was the teams' 127th football season since formation. They ended 7th in the Danish Superliga and were knocked out in the third round of DBU Pokalen.
A carpet court is a type of tennis court. The International Tennis Federation describes the surface as a "textile or polymeric material supplied in rolls or sheets of finished product." It is one of the fastest court types, second only to grass courts. The use of carpet courts in ATP Tour competitions ended in 2009. In women's tennis, no WTA Tour tournaments have used carpet courts since the last edition of the Tournoi de Québec in 2018. ATP Challenger and ITF circuit level tournaments with carpet courts continue to exist up to the present (2022).
Funen Series for men, also known as Albani Series for men for sponsorship reasons, and often shortened to FS serien and FS Herre, is the highest division for men organised by the regional football association DBU Fyn (DBUF) and one of the fifth-highest divisions overall in the Danish football league system. The league, deciding the Funen Football Championship, was first introduced with the 1904–05 season and throughout the years the competition format have gone through several series of changes. At the time of the league's introduction, it was placed at the top of the Danish football league system featuring the best regional amateur teams of Funen, but has since been moved to its current status as the fifth best level in Danish football, after a short period as the sixth best level, now featuring lower ranking amateur teams including the reserve squads of clubs playing at the Danish third league tier or above.
The 1926 FBUs Pokalturnering was the 7th edition of the regional tournament, FBUs Pokalturnering, the highest senior cup competition organised by the Funen FA (FBU). The tournament was held in the third quarter of 1926 with B 1913 as the defending cup champions. The season was launched on 8 August 1926 with the preliminary round involving two matches involving Ejby BK versus Dalum BK and Assens G&IK versus AIK Bogense, while Bogense G&IF and Arbejdernes I&BK (AIB) of Middelfart both received a bye to the next round. A total of eighteen teams from the 1925–26 FBUs A-række, the 1925–26 FBUs B-række and three new member clubs of the regional football association participated in the cup tournament, which embraced seventeen cup matches — the reigning Funen champions Svendborg BK from the top-flight league choose not to participate in this year's edition.

Viby Idrætsforening is a sports club based in Viby J, Aarhus Municipality, Denmark. Founded in 1918, the club features basketball, gymnastics, handball and tennis. The association football department, however, is the main activity and the largest sport in the club with approximately 500 members, of whom 275 are youth players. Currently, the club's first team plays in the Denmark Series, the fifth tier of the Danish football league system.
Odense Kammeraternes Sportsklub, commonly known as OKS, is a Danish association football club. Founded 1930 in Odense, Funen, the club's home ground is OKSon Park. The first team competes in the fifth-tier Denmark Series and is part of the local DBU Funen governing body.
