Real tennis – one of several games sometimes called "the sport of kings" – is the original racquet sport from which the modern game of tennis is derived. It is also known as court tennis in the United States, royal tennis in England and Australia, and courte-paume in France. Many French real tennis courts are at jeu de paume clubs.
Squash tennis is an American variant of squash, one played with a ball and racquets that are more similar to the equipment used for lawn tennis, and with somewhat different rules. The game offers the complexity of squash and the speed of racquetball.

The Newport Casino is an athletic complex and recreation center located at 180–200 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island in the Bellevue Avenue/Casino Historic District. Built in 1879–1881 by New York Herald publisher James Gordon Bennett, Jr., it was designed in the Shingle style by the newly formed firm of McKim, Mead & White. The Newport Casino was the firm's first major commission and helped to establish the firm's national reputation. Built as a social club, it included courts for both lawn tennis and court tennis, facilities for other games, such as squash and lawn bowling, club rooms for reading, socializing, card-playing, and billiards, shops, and a convertible theater and ballroom. It became a center of Newport's social life during the Gilded Age through the 1920s.

The National Tennis Club (NTC) is a court tennis club in Newport, Rhode Island, United States. Its home is the reconstructed Court Tennis Building at the Newport Casino. The National Tennis Club hosted the Real Tennis World Championship match in 2004, when Robert Fahey successfully defended his title against Tim Chisholm. The Court Tennis Building was constructed as part of the original Casino complex in 1880 and in 1980 the National Tennis Court was rededicated, largely through the efforts of Clarence "Clarry" Pell, as the symbolic home of the sport in the United States.

The tuxedo was first introduced to America by New York millionaire James Potter at the club's first Autumn ball in 1886, after a trip to England.

Camden Riviere is an American left-handed real tennis player and current world champion. He became world champion on May 21, 2016, defeating long-time holder Robert Fahey 7 sets to 2 at Riviere's home court, the National Tennis Club, Newport, Rhode Island. Two years later, at Riviere's first defense of the title, Fahey reclaimed the title beating Riviere by 7 sets to 5 at Queen's Club, London. Riviere regained the title from Fahey at the 2022 World Championship played at Prested Hall in Feering, Essex, England, winning by 7 sets to 5. He retained the title in 2023, defeating John Lumley 7 sets to 3 at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna, Virginia.

Liverpool Racquet Club was a gentlemen's club in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It was founded in 1874 to provide facilities for gentlemen to play real tennis and other racquet games. They selected a site in Upper Parliament Street for their building, which opened in 1877. Originally it provided two racquet courts, and an American bowling alley. Soon after this, a new dining room and a billiards room were added. In 1894 further alterations were made, including the conversion of the bowling alley into two fives courts, one for Eton Fives and the other for Rugby Fives. By 1900 the Rugby fives court was being used as a squash court. In 1913 a covered lawn tennis court was added. By 1936 all the courts were being used for squash. Residential accommodation was added at that time. The building was damaged during the Second World War, during which time the Club gave hospitality to officers of the Royal Navy. On 6 July 1981 the Club building was destroyed in the Toxteth riots. Following this, the Club bought the lease of Hargreaves Building in Chapel Street, and converted it for their purposes. This was sold in 2001, and the building became the Racquet Club Hotel.

The Jeu de Paume de Paris also known as the Société Sportive du Jeu de Paume et de Racquets is a real tennis and squash private members' club on Rue Lauriston in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. It is one of three active real tennis courts in France, and the only one remaining in Paris. The current club was built in 1908 having relocated from the court in the Tuileries Garden, the latter converted into an art gallery. Initially built as two real tennis courts, the northern court was converted into four squash courts in 1927. The club hosted the real tennis World Doubles Championships in 2013 and the real tennis Women's World Championships in 2005 and 2013. It has hosted the real tennis French Open annually since 1992, one of the four major national Opens for the sport.
The US Open is an annual court tennis tournament run by the United States Court Tennis Association. The event attracts the top professional and amateur players from around the world. The location rotates each year between the Tennis and Racquet Club in Boston, the Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo, New York, the Racquet Club of Chicago, the Racquet Club of Philadelphia. The event has also previously been held at the Racquet and Tennis Club in New York, but it was removed from the rotation due to its male-only policy. The women's rotation excludes Chicago but also includes Prince's Court in Virginia and the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Rhode Island. The men's event carrys ranking points and forms part of the qualification pathway for the Real Tennis World Championship. The women's event does not carry any ranking points.
