Terminal 17 Shah Alam is a major intercity bus terminal serving the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.
Originally operated as early as 1980s, the terminal was closed for major rebuild from 2013 and operation of the terminal was temporarily moved to Seksyen 13 temporary bus terminal. The terminal reopened with new name of Terminal 17 Shah Alam on May 1, 2019.
Early iteration of Shah Alam intercity bus terminal in Seksyen 17 was said to start its operation around the 1980s, [1] providing the city with interstate bus services around Peninsular Malaysia. Eventually, as the facilities has started to age, a call for a new, modern bus terminal for the city arise.
Early plan by Selangor state government in 2008 was for the terminal to be relocated to Glenmarie, but citing traffic issues in the proposed site and lack of other suitable areas, the final decision was to rebuild the original bus terminal in Seksyen 17. On December 15, 2014, the terminal was closed and all operation moved to Seksyen 13 temporary bus terminal. [2]
The terminal was originally planned for reopening in 2015. However, after series of delays, the terminal was reopened to the public on May 1, 2019. [3]
The terminal provides a fully air conditioned waiting hall for passengers, which can fit 300 people at a time. It also have 10 ticketing counters, and the boarding system adapted the Centralised Ticketing System to avoid touting. Amenities like toilet and a praying room are provided indoors. A few convenience store operate in the station, including the MYNEWS store chain.
