The BlackSheeps was a Norwegian Sami band from Nesseby. Their breakthrough came following their participation in the MGP jr, a song contest for children organised by Norwegian state broadcaster NRK. Having won MGP jr 2008 with the song Oro jaska, beana (Be Quiet, Dog) the group went on to represent Norway in the MGP Nordic 2008. [1] They also won this competition after receiving more than half the votes. In 2011, the band was the subject of a legal dispute over the dismissal of two band members, unpaid royalties, and the right to use the band name. [2] However, it was ruled that the band still holds the right to the name, and former band members Alexander Touryguin and Viktoria Eriksen are not owed any money. [3]

Career

The group was formed in 2008 by singer Agnete Johnsen, guitarist Emelie Nilsen, bassist Alexander Touryguin, and drummer Viktoria Eriksen. On 2 June 2007 the group participated in Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2008 with their song "Oro, Jaska, Beana." The group won the contest and went on to represent Norway in MGP Nordic 2008. On 29 November 2008 the group won MGP Nordic 2008 after receiving more than half of the votes. "Oro, Jaska, Beana" reached #1 in the Norwegian Singles Charts afterwards. In June 2010, Touryguin and Eriksen were dismissed from the band and were replaced by Nikolaj Gloppen and Simon Stenvoll Pedersen respectively. [4] In 2011, the band participated in Melodi Grand Prix 2011, with their song "Dance Tonight." They ultimately came 2nd place, losing out to the song "Haba Haba" by Stella Mwangi. The band became the subject of a legal dispute over the dismissal of Touryguin and Eriksen, unpaid royalties and the right to use the band name. Trivia

In a live chat on the website of Norwegian newspaper VG , the group was confronted with the grammatical incorrectness of their name. The group said they were aware that “sheeps” was not the correct plural form but contended that this did not matter. “Many bands have spelling mistakes in their name, such as The Beatles. Remember it’s just a band name, so anything works,” was their reply. [9]

Melodi Grand Prix Nordic 2008 was the fourth Nordic Melodi Grand Prix, a Scandinavian song contest for children aged 8 to 15. The contest was held on November 29, 2008 in Aarhus, Denmark and the participating countries were Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Each country submitted two songs to participate in the first round with the top placing entry from each country proceeding to the super-final. The winner of the MGP Nordic 2008 was Norway's The BlackSheeps with "Oro jaska beana".

MGP Nordic 2002 was the first annual MGP Nordic, a song competition eligible to singers from Denmark, Norway and Sweden between the ages of 8 and 15. It took place on 27 April 2002 in Copenhagen, Denmark and was hosted by Camilla Ottesen, Stian Barsnes Simonsen and Josefin Sundström.

"Oro jaska, beana" is a song by Norwegian group The BlackSheeps. It won both the Norwegian MGP jr contest in September 2008 and went on to win MGP Nordic 2008, beating songs from Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

MGP Junior is a Danish song contest for children aged 8 to 15. It originated in 2000 as a spin-off of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, before coming the national selection for the now-extinct MGP Nordic in 2002 and from 2006 to 2009. From 2003 to 2005, MGP Junior was Denmark's national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, a pan-European version of the format. The songs are performed primarily in Danish and written by the participants themselves. Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2002 was the first ever music competition in Norway in the series Melodi Grand Prix Junior for children between the ages of 8 and 15. The winners were To små karer with the song "Paybacktime". They represented Norway in MGP Nordic held in Denmark together with the second-placed Wicked Instinct and third-placed Black Jackets. Program presenter was Thomas Numme, while Stian Barsnes Simonsen was backstage.

The Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2008 was Norway's seventh national Melodi Grand Prix Junior for young singers aged 8 to 15. It was held on September 5, 2008 at the Oslo Spektrum, courtesy of NRK.

Fred-René Øvergård Buljo, better known as simply Fred Buljo, is a Norwegian Sámi rapper and joiker. Buljo is a member of the Sámi rap duo Duolva Duottar, consisting of Buljo and Ole Mahtte Gaup, established in 2007. In 2008, the group made a breakthrough when they participated in Norske Talenter and reached the final. He also is one of members of the Norwegian supergroup KEiiNO, alongside Alexandra Rotan and Tom Hugo, the group was created in late 2018 in preparation for the participation in Melodi Grand Prix 2019., they won the contest and so were selected to represent Norway in the 2019 Eurovision Contest, coming in 7th in the semifinals, and 6th in the final, with the song "Spirit in the Sky".

Subwoolfer is a British-Norwegian pop duo formed in 2021. The two members perform in black suits with white shirts with distinctive yellow stylized wolf-head masks and yellow gloves and ties and go by the pseudonyms Keith and Jim. Their identities were publicly revealed on 4 February 2023 as Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen, during the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2023. After winning Melodi Grand Prix 2022, they represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with their debut song "Give That Wolf a Banana". The name of the duo is a combination of the words subwoofer and wolf.
