The K&D Sessions [3] is the second DJ mix compilation album by the Vienna-based duo Kruder & Dorfmeister. Released by Studio !K7 in 1998 to glowing reviews, the album features two original songs among the remixes. [2]
The compilation album is a selection of remixes produced in the previous five years by either Richard Dorfmeister, Peter Kruder or the two together. [2] [4] The album also contains two original productions. [4] Dorfmeister stated that they worked about two weeks on each remix. [5] John Bush of AllMusic described the album's sound as "earthy, downtempo and acid-based, even more so than previous mix albums by the pair." [2]
The K&D Sessions was released on 5 October 1998 in both a two-disc CD set and a four-disc vinyl set by Studio !K7. [4] On 28 February 1999, Kruder & Dorfmeister started on a ten city tour of North America to promote the album. [6]
After the release and success of the album, the group received several requests from artists for remixes, all of which they turned down. [5] Dorfmeister stated that they had felt like they had "already done it," adding: "I'd rather release nothing than something that is half and half. ... Perhaps we don't have so much output, but at least then we don't release some bullshit." [5]

The K&D Sessions received acclaim on its release. Spike Magazine gave the album a positive review, stating that it is "one of those albums that comes out of the blue, providing a whole bunch of surprises to make even the most jaded get excited about music again." [13] Spin felt that The K&D Sessions has "less scope and vibrancy" than the duo's DJ Kicks album, but nonetheless praised it as a more consistent release. [12] Spin later placed the album at number 19 on their list of top 20 albums of 1999. [14] Music database AllMusic gave the album five stars out of five, opining that "the impossibly deep beats on almost every track simply couldn't have been recorded by any other act" and referring to the music as "the most blissfully blunted music the world has ever heard." [2]
Feeling that the album was overlong, the NME gave the album a mixed review, asking "does the world really need to own both their reappraisals of Bomb the Bass' 'Bug Powder Dust', even if the first one is a corker?" [10] Pitchfork also noted the length of the album referring to the second disc as "thoroughly boring", but praising the album stating "a handful of the tracks on this sprawling two-CD set demonstrate a mastery of rhythm unseen in DJ'd music since DJ Shadow bestowed upon us the gift of Endtroducing..... . Out of the depths of their remix material's musical void, Kruder and Dorfmeister assemble organic downtempo triumphs which may alone be sufficient to perpetuate the otherwise trite brand of music currently labeled 'trip-hop.'" Kruder & Dorfmeister, named after members Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister, is an Austrian duo, known for their trip hop/downtempo remixes of pop, hip hop and drum and bass songs.
Peace Orchestra is a musical solo project from the Austrian music producer Peter Kruder, best known as one half of Kruder & Dorfmeister.
Downtempo is a broad label for electronic music that features an atmospheric sound and slower beats than would typically be found in dance music. Closely related to ambient music but with greater emphasis on rhythm, the style may be played in relaxation clubs or as "warm-up or cool-down" music during a DJ set. Examples of downtempo subgenres include trip hop, ambient house, chillwave, psybient and lofi hip hop.

The name is an abbreviation of the company's original Berlin address, Kaiserdamm 7. !K7 has since opened branch offices in New York City and London. Instead, it is a "best of" selection of tracks that were produced and performed by the DJs who mixed some of the earlier DJ-Kicks albums. Each of the tracks were exclusive to the DJ Kicks series and are available on those previous mix albums.

Andrew Lewis Taylor is a British multi-instrumentalist musician, born and raised in Barnet, North London, England, in the late 1960s. He started in the music business as a guitarist touring with the psychedelic rock band Edgar Broughton Band. In 1986 he began performing as Sheriff Jack, releasing two albums of psychedelia music, Laugh Yourself Awake (1986) and What Lovely Melodies! (1987). As Lewis Taylor, he released his self-titled album in 1996, through Island Records, with tracks including "Bittersweet" and "Lucky" being released as singles. The album showcased a significant departure from psychedelia towards neo soul and was highly acclaimed. However, it became "an album that everybody talked about but few bought".

Give 'Em Enough Dope Volume One is a compilation album of music by various artists released in 1994 by British electronic label Wall of Sound as their first release. The idea for the album came when Wall of Sound's founder, Mark Jones, wanted to release a compilation of hard-to-find music by unsigned artists, with whom he had worked with via his distribution and pressing deals, so that the music could be heard by a wider audience. He picked his favourite such tracks which there was already an audience for and this became the compilation.
Horst Weidenmüller is a German music executive producer and entrepreneur, founder of !K7 Music. He has been part of the music industry since the early 1980s when he began as a producer of concert video footage of musicians in the punk music genre. He founded !K7 in 1985 and became an influential part of the Berlin techno music industry in the early 1990s. Weidenmüller curated and produced a popular techno music audiovisual series, X-Mix, which aired on MTV in the mid-1990s. He also serves on the board of several trade associations, including the IMPALA where he was co-president until 2011. Since its founding in 2008, he has also served on the board of the digital rights agency Merlin Network.
