The New Backwards is an album by Coil released on 18 April 2008. The album is reworked from the Backwards demo, which was originally created for Nothing Records.
The New Backwards was produced by Peter Christopherson and Danny Hyde, and is reworked from the Backwards demo, which was submitted to Torso Records in 1993 and then further recorded at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the mid-1990s for a planned release on Reznor's Nothing Records imprint on major label Interscope Records. The record was made in Bangkok in 2007. [1]
The album was originally released on 12" vinyl as part of a box set reissue of the album The Ape of Naples . [2] It is currently available on 12" vinyl, compact disc, and downloads in FLAC, aac, and mp3 formats.
On 30 March 2022, the album was re-released in an 'Expanded Edition' through Infinite Fog Productions, which added previously unreleased and unfinished material from the album's recording sessions. [3]

The New Backwards is the final iteration of material that Coil had been working on since at least 1993. The first know version of these songs was a demo tape simply title Backwards, which Coil submitted to their then-current European label, Torso Records, for approval in 1993. [4]
"Bee Has The Photos" and "Egyptian Basses", though often included in bootlegs of the demo, are not considered to be officially part of this bootleg as they were released as part of the Songs of the Week download series and not on the supposed original demo. [4] However, the version from Songs of the Week is an alternate version, much shorter in length.
After the dissolution of Torso records in 1994 [5] , much of the material from the demo was further developed at Nothing Studios, with the intent of releasing the album under Nothing Records. During this time, the project received many different names, such as International Dark Skies, [6] God Please Fuck My Mind for Good, Fire of the Mind, [7] and The World Ended a Long Time Ago [8] . However, its release was continuously postponed, and Coil would end up releasing no album through Nothing.
On June 18, 2001, Coil were invited as guests for a broadcast on Dutch radio station Radio 4 to promote an impending live show in the Netherlands. During this broadcast, the entirety of the Backwards demo tape was played live, marking the first official acknowledgement of its existence and its first publication. A four-disc CD-R recording of the entire broadcast was later released in an unknown quantity as Dutch Radio4 Supplement.
On the live Coil album Live Three , a song called "Backwards" is performed. This song is an incarnation of the songs "Simenon" and "Bee Has Photos".
The Ape of Naples is considered to be another reinterpretation of the Backwards demo, [9] as it featured completely reworked versions of "Heaven's Blade", "AYOR" and other songs that are believed to have been originally created around the time of Backwards. Although the album contains a lot of material from the Backwards sessions, the material is so augmented that there are very few recognizable samples.
Further material from the Backwards sessions has since been released as Backwards (through Cold Spring) [10] and Swanyard [11] .

Three extra tracks, "Bee Has the Photos", "Egyptian Basses" and a different version of "Spastiche", have been circulated with the demos.
Nothing Records was an American record label specializing in industrial rock and electronic music, founded by John Malm Jr. and Trent Reznor in 1992. It is considered an example of a vanity label, where an artist is able to run a label with some small degree of independence within a larger parent company, in this case the larger company being Interscope Records.

Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial scene."
Peter Martin Christopherson was an English musician, video director, commercial artist, designer and photographer, and former member of British design agency Hipgnosis.
Tapeworm was an American side project of Nine Inch Nails which existed in various forms from 1995 to roughly 2004. Tapeworm never released any recordings, but was frequently referenced in interviews. The band started as a side-project between Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and live-band members Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser. Through the years the group expanded and evolved numerous times to include artists such as Maynard James Keenan, Atticus Ross, and Alan Moulder, effectively turning the project into a supergroup. After many years of rumors and expected release dates, Reznor announced the end of the project in 2004.
...And the Ambulance Died in His Arms was an album recorded live during Coil's performance at All Tomorrow's Parties on 4 April 2003. This album was the last planned release by Coil before the death of John Balance. When the release was announced, Peter noted that Balance had already selected the title.

The album was a definitive effort by primary Coil member Peter Christopherson to rework and remix material from 1993 to 2004 into a coherent final record. It was produced and released following the death of co-lead artist and lead vocalist John Balance, who died on 13 November 2004, and the album was released in memory of him.

Black Antlers is a studio album by the experimental band Coil. It was originally released in CD-R format in 2004 in a limited edition and was sold during their Even an Evil Fatigue mini-tour. The album was later re-edited by Peter Christopherson and expanded to include a second CD of two new tracks, as well as a new track on the first disc. The second edition was released in August 2006 on the same day as the expanded version of The Remote Viewer. Both reissues were mastered by Mark Godwin, printed in Thailand and feature high quality images and packaging. Although the original edition did not include a catalogue number, the reissue was given a catalogue number of THBKK2.
Live One was a double live album released by Coil. This CD was the fourth of four releases in a series. Its counterparts are Live Four, Live Three and Live Two. This album was later released as part of Coil's box set The Key to Joy Is Disobedience.
Selvaggina, Go Back into the Woods is a live album by Coil, originally released in CD-R format in a limited edition of 230 copies. The release is a live performance in Jesi, Italy, on 11 July 2004.

At this show, Coil were Peter Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra and Ossian Brown. Jhonn Balance was too sick to attend, as in case of Montreal concert at MUTEK Festival.
The Nirvana bootleg recordings are a number of recordings of musical performances by the American rock band Nirvana, which were previously not officially released by the band, or under any other legal authority.
