The Rated Legend is the debut studio album by British rapper Cadet. The album was released posthumously on 10 April 2020 via Cadet's independent imprint Underrated Legends. Its title comes from a reversal of the nickname used to describe Cadet, "The Underrated Legend". [1]
On 2 March 2020, Cadet's cousin Krept announced that Cadet's album The Rated Legend would be released the following month on 10 April 2020. [3] It would include the singles "Advice" and "Gang Gang" as well as previously unreleased music, and features vocal contributions from Young Adz, Krept, Swarmz, Wretch 32, Chip, Tion Wayne, and Deno, and production from Show N Prove and Da Beatfreakz. [4] Krept was the executive producer for the album and stated that all the guest artists and producers had contributed to the album for free. [3]
In promotion of the album, a short film titled Support Me was released on 11 March 2020 along with the lead single of the album. The film is based on the subject of an aspiring writer looking to his significant other for support and motivation whilst he chases his career. It also touches on the themes of love and success, displaying a narrative in which a young man attempts to balance his career as a writer and time with his significant other. The film was distributed by ADV Films and was released on YouTube via Cadet's channel. [5]
"Advice" was released as a non-album single originally on 28 August 2018. The track was produced by longtime collaborator of Cadet, Da Beatfreakz. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 54, reaching a peak of number 14 in its 30 weeks of charting, and 2 weeks after the death of Cadet. It ultimately became Cadet's first charted single which was also his highest and longest-running. [6] The second single "Gang Gang" was released posthumously on 29 August 2019 and was produced by LA Beats. It entered the UK Singles Charts at 82 on 12 August 2019 where it remained on the charts for a week. [7] The third single "Support Me", which acted as the lead single of the album, was released on 11 March 2020 and was produced by Dirty Saj. The song was released with a short promotional film of the same name released on YouTube via Cadet's channel. [5]

The album was met with positive reviews. Ramy-Abou Setta of Clash said that Cadet "seals his legendary status in UK rap, showcasing natural storytelling ability through gritty lyrics and deep understanding of an authentic sound" and called the album "the perfect way to honour Cadet while staying true to his unique vision". [8] Kyann-Sian Williams of NME called the album "a fitting showcase of his incredible talent" and stated that it "shows off the meticulous talents of one of south London's most successful underdogs, who was always unafraid to speak his mind". [9] Emily Fortune of Gigwise highlighted Cadet's "abundance of energy" as he displays "everything from his humour to his deepest emotions, in a mixture of Afroswing infused instrumentals to old school inspired hip-hop and grime production", and summed up the album as showing "the impact that he had not only on his friends and fellow artists but on the UK rap scene as a whole". Jahmaal Noel Fyffe, better known by his stage name Chip, is a British rapper and songwriter from Tottenham, North London. In the past 14 years he has collaborated with the likes of Skepta, T.I., Meek Mill, Young Adz and many others. In 2009, he released his debut album, I Am Chipmunk, featuring four songs which peaked in the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, including the chart-topping "Oopsy Daisy". In 2011, Chipmunk released his follow-up album, the American hip hop-influenced Transition. It included the single "Champion" featuring Chris Brown, which peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart.
Krept and Konan are a British-Jamaican hip hop duo from London, consisting of Casyo Valentine "Krept" Johnson BEM and Karl Dominic "Konan" Wilson BEM, the son of Delroy Wilson otherwise known as 'Jamaica's first child star'. Their first major release was the mixtape Young Kingz, released on 2 September 2013. As of 3 May 2013, Krept and Konan signed a record deal with Virgin EMI Records.
David Orobosa "Dave" Omoregie, also known as Santan Dave, is a British rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. Dave has gained acclaim for his socially conscious lyricism and wordplay, and is among the most recognised British rappers.
Momodou Lamin Jallow, better known professionally as J Hus, is an English rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is currently signed to Black Butter Records. J Hus has been credited with pioneering the genre afroswing. He gained popularity in 2015 following the release of his song "Dem Boy Paigon".
Stephanie Victoria Allen, better known by her stage name Stefflon Don, is an English rapper, singer and songwriter. She rose to fame after her 2017 single "Hurtin' Me" featuring French Montana peaked at number 7 on UK Singles Chart. In 2016 Allen released her debut mixtape Real Ting followed by another mixtape, Secure in 2018.
"Gang Gang" is a song by Cadet. It was released posthumously on 29 August 2019 and peaked at number 82 on the UK Singles Chart. This would be Cadet's last single to ever be released.
Jarad Anthony Higgins, known professionally as Juice Wrld, was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. His 2018 single "Lucid Dreams" has been played on the music streaming platform Spotify over one billion times and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. "Lucid Dreams", along with his earlier hit single "All Girls Are the Same", helped him secure a recording contract with Lil Bibby's Grade A Productions and Interscope Records. He derived his stage name from late American rapper Tupac Shakur's role in the film Juice and stated that it represents taking over the world. He is considered as a leading figure in the emo-rap and SoundCloud rap genres which garnered mainstream attention during the mid-late 2010s.
Irving Ampofo Adjei, known professionally as Headie One, is a Ghanaian-British rapper. In 2018, he released the mixtape The One, which included the single "Know Better", featuring rapper RV, which became an "underground hit". He is a member of the drill rap group OFB.
Blaine Cameron Johnson, known professionally as Cadet, was a British rapper, songwriter and record producer.
"Advice" is a song by English rappers Cadet and Deno, released on 28 August 2018. The song peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in February 2019 following Cadet's death; it had previously reached number one on the UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart in September 2018. The song has since amassed over 30 million views on YouTube. The song mentions English footballer Dele Alli where the two rappers are seen depicting the Dele Alli signature celebration in the album art. The song was included on Cadet's posthumous debut album The Rated Legend, released on 10 April 2020.

Meet the Woo 2 is the second mixtape by American rapper Pop Smoke. Released by Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records on February 7, 2020, it is the second installment in the Meet the Woo mixtape series, following Meet the Woo (2019). The deluxe edition of the mixtape, released on February 12, 2020, features three new tracks, including a remix of "Dior" featuring American rapper Gunna. On February 19, 2020, less than two weeks after the release of the standard edition of Meet the Woo 2, Pop Smoke was shot and killed at age 20 during a home invasion.
