A pub is in several countries a drinking establishment licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. The term first appeared in England in the late 17th century, to differentiate private houses from those open to the public as alehouses, taverns and inns. Today, there is no strict definition, but the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) states a pub has four characteristics:
- is open to the public without membership or residency
- serves draught beer or cider without requiring food be consumed
- has at least one indoor area not laid out for meals
- allows drinks to be bought at a bar
Harome is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, around 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of the market town of Helmsley, and 24 miles (39 km) north-east of York. The village has a population of 261 people according to the 2011 UK census, and a total land area of 9,539 sq metres. It is situated to the east of the River Riccal. The village has 109 households, with agriculture and retail trade being the two main employers for the residents. The name Harome simply means rocks/stones, and translates from old English meaning a heap of stones.

He serves as the chef/patron of Corrigan's Bar & Restaurant Mayfair, Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill, Daffodil Mulligan Restaurant & Gibney's Bar in London, Virginia Park Lodge and adjoining pub the Deerpark Inn in Virginia, County Cavan, and most recently The Portrait Restaurant, located on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery, London.
Murcott is a village between the River Ray and Otmoor in the civil parish of Fencott and Murcott, about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Bicester in Oxfordshire, England.
The Crooked House was a pub in South Staffordshire, England. Its name and distinctive appearance were the result of 19th-century mining subsidence which caused one side of the building to be approximately 4 feet (1.2 m) lower than the other. It was known as "Britain's wonkiest pub", and optical illusions inside the building made objects appear to roll uphill.
Oldstead is a village and a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, within the North York Moors National Park, off the A170 road between Thirsk and Helmsley, below the Hambleton Hills. Nearby villages include Wass, Kilburn and Coxwold. Oldstead shares a parish council with Byland with Wass.
Glynn Purnell is an English chef, restaurateur and television personality from Solihull. Formerly head chef at Jessica's, he is the proprietor of The Mount by Glynn Purnell and Plates by Purnell and was until 2024 head chef at Purnell's. Both Jessica's and Purnell's were awarded a Michelin star.
Thomas Kerridge is an English chef. After initially appearing in several small television parts as a child actor, he decided to attend culinary school at the age of 18. He has since worked at a variety of British restaurants, including the Rhodes in the Square and Adlards.
The Hand & Flowers is a gastropub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England that opened in 2005. Owned and operated by Tom Kerridge and his wife Beth Cullen-Kerridge, it gained its first Michelin star within a year of opening and a second in the 2012 list, making it the first pub to hold two Michelin stars. It was named the AA Restaurant of the Year for 2011–12.
Daniel Clifford is an English chef who is best known for his work at the two Michelin star restaurant Midsummer House. He was also named one of the winners of the 2012 and 2013 series of the BBC television show the Great British Menu. He was chef patron of a gastro pub in Little Dunmow, Essex, named The Flitch of Bacon, which held one Michelin star from 2018 to 2021. Daniel is married to his wife Alice and has five daughters and two stepsons.
Claude Bosi is a French chef. His first Head Chef position was at Overton Grange in 1999. He opened Hibiscus in the market town of Ludlow, Shropshire, in 2000 and was awarded two Michelin Stars in 2004. In 2007, he relocated the restaurant to London, where he went on to reclaim the two Michelin Stars in 2009.
The Hind's Head is a gastropub in Bray, in Berkshire, England. It dates from the 15th century and was converted into a restaurant in the 1920s. In 2004, it was purchased by the chef Heston Blumenthal, the owner of another Bray restaurant, the Fat Duck.
Loam was a restaurant and wine bar in Galway, Ireland. It had one Michelin star from 2016 to 2022. In 2023, co-owner Enda McEvoy announced that the restaurant would not be reopening after closing its doors in September 2022, citing staff shortages and spiralling costs as reasons behind the decision.
Eipic, styled as EIPIC, was a restaurant in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2016 and retained that until its closure in 2023.
Tommy Banks is a British Michelin Star head chef. He owns Michelin-starred The Black Swan at Oldstead, Roots in York, The Abbey Inn at Byland and the premium food box business Made In Oldstead.
The Black Swan is a restaurant with rooms at Oldstead, in North Yorkshire, England which provides food, drink and accommodation. Its restaurant, run by chef Tommy Banks, has been awarded a Michelin Star and Four AA Rosettes. It was rated the best restaurant in the world in 2017 by TripAdvisor.
The Raby Hunt was a two Michelin star restaurant located in Summerhouse, County Durham, United Kingdom. Whilst it was housed in a 200-year-old Grade II listed building, the restaurant itself was opened in 2009 as chef James Close's first. It gained its first star in 2012 and its second in 2016, making it the only establishment in North East England to reach that status. As it offered overnight accommodation it was classed as a Restaurant with Rooms, the modern equivalent of an inn.
The FBI and ATF tracked 164 structure fires from arson that occurred May 27–30, 2020, during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul. Rioters started fires by igniting flammable materials within or next to buildings and in some cases by deploying Molotov cocktails. Property locations were damaged by spreading flames, heat, and smoke, and by suppressant waters from fire hoses and fire sprinkler systems. Many of the impacted structures suffered heavy damage or were destroyed, with some being reduced to piles of rubble after collapsing.
