The Star Inn is a gastropub/restaurant located in the village of Harome near Helmsley in North Yorkshire, England. The pub has been in the village since the 19th century and the building dates back to the 14th century. It has been known for the quality of its food since the 1970s. The current owner is Andrew Pern who took over in 1996 originally with his then wife, Jacquie Pern. He has continued the tradition for quality food, gaining several awards. As of 2015 [update] , the restaurant holds one star in the Michelin Guide, an award it regained in 2014 having previously held it from 2002 to 2011. [1] [2]
The building was designated as a Grade II listed building in January 1955. [3] The pub was badly damaged by a fire in November 2021. [4]
On 24 November 2021, the roof of The Star Inn caught fire around 10 pm that evening. Head chef and owner Andrew Pern told BBC Radio York that the thatched roof created a "perfect fuel" for a fire. The official Twitter account for the restaurant posted "We won't be open for a while as we are reduced to ashes with The Star on fire and still burning." [10] It is estimated getting the restaurant back to business will take about a year. The fire is believed to be a case of arson. North Yorkshire Police said, “A number of groups of people were in the area around the time of the fire, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them” [11] or telephone Crimestoppers anonymously. [12]
In September 2022, it was announced that The Star Inn would partially reopen from 1 October 2022. [13]
A 28-year old man from Helmsley, is due to appear in court charged with committing arson with recklessness as to whether property would be destroyed or life endangered. [14] It is estimated that the arson caused £2 million worth of damage. [14]

Harome is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, around 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of the market town of Helmsley, and 24 miles (39 km) north-east of York. The Raby Hunt was a two Michelin star restaurant located in Summerhouse, County Durham, United Kingdom. Whilst it was housed in a 200-year-old Grade II listed building, the restaurant itself was opened in 2009 as chef James Close's first. It gained its first star in 2012 and its second in 2016, making it the only establishment in North East England to reach that status. As it offered overnight accommodation it was classed as a Restaurant with Rooms, the modern equivalent of an inn.
The FBI and ATF tracked 164 structure fires from arson that occurred May 27–30, 2020, during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul. Rioters started fires by igniting flammable materials within or next to buildings and in some cases by deploying Molotov cocktails. Property locations were damaged by spreading flames, heat, and smoke, and by suppressant waters from fire hoses and fire sprinkler systems. Many of the impacted structures suffered heavy damage or were destroyed, with some being reduced to piles of rubble after collapsing.
