The Walden School (formerly The Magnet School) [2] is a K-12 Progressive School in Hyderabad, India that is inspired by the philosophy and views on education of Jiddu Krishnamurti. The Walden school is managed by the Walden Education Foundation. [3] The Walden School follows 'The Studio Approach' with Science, Mathematics, Language and Literature. The Walden School developed an approach and methodology that enables children to discover multiple ways of solving problems in Mathematics and applying concepts in Science. [4] [5]

Studio-based learning

The Walden School follows Studio Based Learning developed by John Dewey. Unlike a lab that uses standardised procedures with set equipment to reproduce a protocol in order to obtain set outcomes, a Studio is a space that invigorates, inspires and provides an opportunity to create, construct and test objectives and hypotheses and analyse data. [6]

At The Walden School, The Experiential Studio serves grades 1 - IV while The Scholar's Studio serves grades V - XII.

Jiddu Krishnamurti was an Indian philosopher, speaker, writer, and spiritual figure. Adopted by members of the Theosophical tradition as a child, he was raised to fill the advanced role of World Teacher, but in adulthood he rejected this mantle and distanced himself from the related religious movement. He spent the rest of his life speaking to groups and individuals around the world; many of these talks have been published. He also wrote many books, among them The First and Last Freedom (1954) and Commentaries on Living (1956–60). His last public talk was in January 1986, a month before his death at his home in Ojai, California.

An alternative school is an educational establishment with a curriculum and methods that are nontraditional. The First and Last Freedom is a book by 20th-century Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986). Originally published in 1954 with a comprehensive foreword by Aldous Huxley, it was instrumental in broadening Krishnamurti's audience and exposing his ideas. It was one of the first Krishnamurti titles in the world of mainstream, commercial publishing, where its success helped establish him as a viable author. The book also established a format frequently used in later Krishnamurti publications, in which he presents his ideas on various interrelated issues, followed by discussions with one or more participants. As of 2022 several editions of the work had been published, in print and digital media.

Jiddu Krishnamurti or J. Krishnamurti, was a writer and speaker on philosophical and spiritual issues including psychological revolution, the nature of the mind, meditation, human relationships, and bringing about positive social change. He came to early prominence thanks to claims, made on his behalf, that he was to be a Messiah. As a young man he repudiated these claims and declared himself unbound by any tradition or philosophy. He spent the rest of his life presenting a uniquely expressed philosophy of life around the world in talks, discussions, and writings.

Ahalya Chari was an Indian educationist and the first commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya chain of schools, a system of education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) India. Her efforts are recognised towards the establishment of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body under the MHRD, attending to the educational needs of the children of transferable central government employees. The Krishnamurti foundations are a set of nonprofit organisations established to preserve and disseminate the work of 20th-century Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986). The foundations, established in the late-1960s to mid-1970s by Krishnamurti and associates, are located in India, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. They transcribe and distribute his thousands of talks, discussions and writings in various media formats and several languages; and maintain archives of original material covering Krishnamurti's almost eight-decade presence in the public stage. Pathashaala PCFL-KFI is a residential school situated in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, and was established in 2010. The campus uses energy sparingly and is designed with solar energy and a windmill. The school has been designed as a zero-blackwater campus by the use of dry composting toilets. The school has about 120 students.

He founded 'Srujana School' and produced Telugu feature films Ammayi Bagundi and Manasu Palike Mouna Raagam. He also produced 'Essence of Life' a synergy of five Indian classical dance forms based on Jiddu Krishnamurti teachings.
