Thiruvakkarai (also spelled as Tiruvakkarai) is a village in the Vanur taluk of Viluppuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Situated on the periphery of Auroville global township, it is the home of National Fossil Wood Park and Chandramouleeswar temple. [1] [2]

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, it had a population of 3220. There were 986 women for every 1000 men. The taluk had a literacy rate of 68.73. Child population in the age group below 6 was 11,028 Males and 10,647 Females. [3]

The National Fossil Wood Park, Tiruvakkarai is a notified National Geo-heritage Monument located in the Villupuram District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and is maintained by the Geological Survey of India. The park was established in 1940 and is located 1 km east of Thiruvakkarai village on the road between Tindivanam and Pondicherry.

Chandramowleeswarar Temple, Thiruvakkarai in Thiruvakkarai, a village in Villupuram district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Constructed in the Tamilian style of architecture, the temple is believed to have been built during the Cholas period in the 10th century. The temple has received gracious endowments from the Chola queen Sembiyan Mahadevi. Shiva is worshipped as Chandramowleeswarar and his consort Parvathi as Amirthambigai.

Irumbai Mahaleswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Irumbai in Vanur taluk in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Maakaleswarar. His consort is known as Kuyilmozhi Ammai.
