Tilottama Municipality is a town in western Nepal. It was formed on May 8, 2014; when the Government of Nepal announced additional 72 municipalities, including previously-proposed 37 municipalities in line with the Local Self-governance Act, 1999. On July 25, 2014; demarcation of the municipality was done along with the assignment of new wards. [2] The original demarcation included six existing VDCs viz. Shankarnagar VDC, Aanandaban VDC, Karahiya VDC, Makrahar VDC, Tikuligadh VDC & Madhabaliya VDC. Gangoliya VDC was later merged in the municipality on 17 September 2015. [3]
A town is a human settlement. Towns are generally larger than villages but smaller than cities, though the criteria to distinguish them vary considerably between different parts of the world.
At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, it had a population of 6894 people living in 1193 individual households. [4] As of the 2011 census, after adding Gangoliya VDC, the total population became 100,149.
The 1991 Nepal census was a widespread national census conducted by the Nepal Central Bureau of Statistics.
Tilottama Municipality is named after the local river Tilottama. Whereas, the Tilottama river was named after an Apsara named Tilottama as described in Hindu mythology. "Tila" is the Sanskrit word for sesame seed or a bit and "uttama" means better or higher. Tilottama therefore means the being whose smallest particle is the finest or one who is composed of the finest and highest qualities. [5]

Crimson Hospital Private Limited in Manigram is the only hospital in the municipality. It is a registered 50 bedded hospital with multidiscipilinary facilities including 5 bedded ICU. The government Hospital Register no is 11/068/069. This hospital is run by Crimson College of Technology affiliated to Pokhara University. The facilities of the hospital includes General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, ENT, Neuropsychiatric, Dermatology, Gyane and obs., Radiology, Anesthesia, Dental and Physiotherapy. It provides 24 hours services for Emergency, Laboratory, ECG, X-RAY (CR System), Pharmacy. [6]
There are many private clinics and government health-posts. Beside these, there are auxiliary centers and private medical halls in every part of the Municipality. But the citizens of municipality are not far from the regional hospital of Butwal and Bhairawaha, which is just 10 km away from the area. The Crimson Hospital, Lumbini Eye care center and other Dental and medical centers of the Manigram are serving more than 50% patient of this Municipality.
Tilottama Campus was established in 1996 as the first private college in Rupandehi with the mission "to create excellent learning ambiance through innovation in teaching, research, consultancy and other professional services for producing competent professionals with developed intuition & insight for coping with global challenges". Since its establishment, the college has been running +2 programme in science and management in Affiliation with Higher Secondary Education Board, Nepal. Similarly, it is also running Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) programme in affiliation with Pokhara University. It is also planning to launch Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in the near future. The college has been imparting a quality education since its incorporation. Its Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) results during the last 16 years have proved that Tilottama Campus has become a home for quality education. It has already been awarded time and again by HSEB for its excellence. In BBA as well the college has high success rate of its students. Tilottama Campus has also been awarded in the list of the Top Ten Business Schools of Nepal by New Business Age magazine. [7]
Rammani Multiple Campus is situated at 8 km south from Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City and 15 km north from Siddharthanagar Municipality. It is about 600m west to the Siddhartha Highway. This campus was established in 2045 B.S. Under T.U. by taking initiation by the social workers, educationists, local guardians, teachers, landlords, merchants etc. contributed to set up this campus. It is named of the Famous national Educationist & Linguist Rammani. Initially, only Management programme was launched taking affiliation from T.U. Currently, two different streams Humanities, and Management are running in master's degree level Under T.U. In the same way, three different streams namely Management, Education and Humanities are running in bachelor's degree. And Science, Management, Education & Humanities are running under Higher Secondary Board. Campus regularly publishes its annual academic calendar, annual mouthpiece "Deepika", and research journal " The Journal of Academic Development." [8]
Lumbini Engineering College in Bhalwari is the only engineering college in the municipality. It was established in 2000 with the motto "Imparting technical knowledge, skill and scientific attitude to the young talent and creating consciousness among the common people towards practical aspects of science and technology". The courses offered by the college are BCA, BE Civil, BE Computer, BE Electronics and Communication, MSc Construction Management, Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Computer Engineering and Diploma in Electronics Engineering. Similarly Modern Little Flower Academy is another educational institute located in Tilottama Municipality with the aim of providing good quality education. [9]
Shankarnagar Ban Bihar and Research Centre, simply referred as Ban Batika by locals is a popular attraction in Tilottama Municipality. [10] The Centre is maintained inside the area of Shankarnagar Community Forest. [11] It was formally inaugurated by the Spokesperson of Constituent Assembly of Nepal on 12th Poush 2064. [12] It is popular for its picnic spots, zoo and garden.
It was awarded Abraham Conservation Award by WWF in 2014 for its contribution in safeguarding the biodiversity of Nepal. [13]
Ostrich Nepal in Gangoliya is the largest ostrich farm in Asia with an area of 8.81 Acers. [14] It is a private company started in 2008. It has its higher mission to export meat of Rs. Five billion as well as leather, fat and feather of around Rs. 2.5 billion to the international market till 2020. [15] It has provided the locals with job opportunities. People from various part of country visit the farm daily to see the alien bird.
Jay Shiva Shakti Water Industries in Tilottama-11, Pradeepnagar is one of the processed drinking water industry of the municipality. Private Company established in 2012, the industries mainly focuses in providing the pure drinking water for the people. The company provides the job for local people thus promoting the better health along with better economy of people living in the municipality.
POOJA FARM is one of the biggest farm in whole municipality & near others municipality, located in Tilottama-11,Dhada which is just 500m east from Janavawana school.The farm include Cows,Buffalos,Goats,Chickens & Ducks. This farm gives the employment opportunities to many workers, the farm mainly focus on the supply of pure milk products & meat products. It has the area about 2Biga. The owner of field is Roshan Timilsina.
The municipality was established in 2014 by the government of Nepal. There are 17 wards in this municipality. The municipality is bordered by Devdaha to the east and northeast, Butwal to the north, Padshari to the south and Motipur to the west.
Radio Lumbini at 96.8 MHz is the most popular community radio service in the municipality. It is one of the earliest station to broadcast outside the Kathmandu Valley. It promotes local culture and airs local news. Lumbini Quiz is very popular among the students. While folk music and local news is popular among the adult population.
Pokhara University was established in 1997 as Nepal's fifth university. Its central office is in Pokhara Lekhnath municipality, Kaski district, Western Development Region. Along with Purbanchal University, PU was formed as part of the government's policy for improved access to higher education. The prime minister is the university chancellor and the minister for education is the pro-chancellor. The vice chancellor is the principal administrator of the university.
Dhangadhi is a sub-metropolitan city and the district headquarters of Kailali District in Sudurpashchim Pradesh of Nepal. It shares a border with Uttar Pradesh, India in the south, Godawari and Gauriganga Municipality in the North, Kailari Rural Municipality in the east and Kanchanpur District in the west. Dhangadhi is a sub-metropolis divided into 19 wards. It has a population of about 147,181 and thus is the 10th biggest city of Nepal. It has an area of 261.75 km2. It is one of the major cities of far-western region of Nepal along with Bhimdatta.

Siddharthanagar municipality is the administrative headquarter of Rupandehi District on the Outer Terai plains of Nepal, 265 km (165 mi) west of Kathmandu Nepal's capital. It is also the "Gateway of Lumbini." Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha is 25 km to the west. Butwal is the nearest city around 21 km from Bhairahawa making the two major cities of the Butwal - Bhairahawa corridor.It borders India, Sonauli in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. The city is among the major industrial power house in the country impacting major economic aspects of Nepal. It has the second largest rate of border trade with India after Birgunj border in the country. Bhairahawa is under the administration of Siddharthanagar Nagarpalika (municipality) so often known as Siddharthanagar.
Birgunj is a metropolitan city and border town in Parsa District in the Narayani Zone of southern Nepal. It lies 135 km (84 mi) south of the capital Kathmandu, attached in the north to Raxaul in the border of the Indian state of Bihar. As an entry point to Nepal from Patna and Kolkata, it is known as the "Gateway to Nepal". The town has significant economic importance for Nepal as most of the trade with India is via Birgunj and the Indian town of Raxaul. Tribhuvan Highway links Birgunj to Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. It was declared a Metropolitan City on 22 May 2017 along with Biratnagar and Pokhara. Birgunj is currently the second largest city in the Terai region of Nepal, and the sixth most populated metropolis of the nation.
Butwal officially Butwal Sub-Metropolitan is one of the twin cities of rapidly growing Butwal-Bhairahawa urban agglomeration in Nepal. It is the largest sub-metropalitan city in Nepal. It lies in Province No. 5, Rupandehi District and also the interim capital of province 5 of Nepal. It is also home to the administrative headquarters of Lumbini Zone. This city stands beside the bank of Tilottama River Tinau River, and at the northern edge of the Terai plain below the Siwalik Hills. Its name, Butwal was derived from Batauli Bazaar, the town's oldest residential area which is located on the western bank of Tinau river. Butwal is a lively city comprising the Panoramic views of the combination of hills and plains.
Kohalpur (कोहलपुर) is a municipality in Banke District in the Bheri Zone in mid-western Nepal. The municipality was established on 18 May 2014 merging the existing two Village Development Committees i.e. Rajhena and Kohalpur. The town is in East-West highway and one of the fastest developing places in Nepal. A neighboring city Nepalgunj is on South (16 km), with Ghorahi city (135 km) to west in Dang District and further 6 km is the Indian border. In fact it is a growing city in the western region of Nepal. It has a junction to diverse the roadway transport to east, west, north and south from the city.
Birendranagar is a city in Surkhet District in Karnali province of Nepal.
Tahu is a village development committee in Palpa District in the Lumbini Zone of southern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 3776.
Sunwal is a municipality in Nawalparasi District. It lies in Western Development Region, Lumbini Zone. It was announced as a municipality on 2011 combining two neighboring Village Development Committees; Sunwal and Swathi; of the district. It is the urban core of a rapidly growing urban agglomerate in Nepal. Sunwal is one of the biggest and richest Municipalitiem of Nawalparasi district. Recently, it belongs to the State no.5 under new constitution.
Kawasoti (कावासोती) is a municipality in Nawalpur District, Gandaki province, Nepal. It is 31 km west of Bharatpur and 85 km (53 mi) east of Butwal, approximately on the middle of Mahendra Highway. The Naryani River flows south of it, and the Mahabharat Range is north of it.
Gajedi Taal is a lake in the Gajedi VDC of southern Nepal located close to Lumbini. It lies just 3 km (1.9 mi) south of Mahendra Highway. The lake spreads over 4.5 km2 (1.7 sq mi) and is surrounded by forest.
Giruwari is one of the village located in north part of Nawalparasi district of Lumnini Zone in the western development region of Nepal. Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi district of Nepal.[1] It is the place where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama, who is the Buddha. Gautama founded the Buddhist tradition. Buddha lived between roughly 563 and 483 BC. Lumbini is one of four magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of the Buddha, the others being at Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya and Sarnath.
Bardaghat [नेपाली: बर्दघाट] is a Municipality in Nawalparasi District in the Lumbini Zone of southern Nepal. It is situated in the lap of Chure range. This municipality was established on 18 May 2014 by merging existing Makar and Panchanagar VDCs. Again during the local election, the neighbouring VDC Dawanne devi and some part of Dhurkot,Jamuniya,Rupauliya were merged in it. It has a population of 55,382 with the area of 162.05 km2. It is an emerging town of Nawalparasi that is developing rapidly.
Gaindakot is a municipality in Nawalparasi District in the Lumbini Zone of southern Nepal. It became a municipality in May 2014 by merging the existing Mukundapur, Amarapuri, and Gaindakot VDCs. It was again expanded by merging Ratanpur VDC. It is situated on the shore of Narayani River in the lap of Maula Kalika temple. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census, it had a population of 58,841 and 13,623 individual households according to 2011 Nepal census.
