Thomas Jacob Haines (born 28 October 1998) is an English cricketer who plays for Sussex County Cricket Club. He is a left-handed top-order batsman who also bowls right-arm medium pace.
Haines made his List A debut on 23 July 2021,for Sussex in the 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup. [1]
In September 2021,Haines became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in the 2021 County Championship. [2] He has attributed his improved form to increased practice. [3] [4]
In April 2022,in the 2022 County Championship,Haines scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket,with 243 runs against Derbyshire. [5] Along with Cheteshwar Pujara,Haines became the first batters to score double centuries in the same innings of a first-class match while following-on. [6] He made his Twenty20 debut on 3 July 2022,for Sussex in the 2022 T20 Blast. [7]
Haines signed a new three-year contract with Sussex in December 2024. [8]
Vijay Singh Madhavji Merchant,was an Indian cricketer. A right-hand batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler,Merchant played first-class cricket for Bombay cricket team as well as 10 Test matches for India between 1929 and 1951. Pujara currently plays for Saurashtra in Indian domestic cricket and formerly for Sussex County club in County Championship. A test specialist throughout his career,Pujara is known for his disciplined and patient batting style which made him an integral part of the Indian Test team for over a decade. He has played over 100 test matches for India which is a remarkable feat. His excellent batting was one of the main reasons of India winning their first-ever test series in Australia in 2018-19 tour.
