Mario Alberto González, better known by his ring name Rey Cometa, is a Mexican luchador, currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Rey Cometa first gained national exposure when he worked for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) from 2005 until 2008. In AAA, he was a part of the group Real Fuerza Aérea, consisting of young high flying wrestlers. As is usual with masked wrestlers in Mexico, Cometa's real name was not a matter of public record until he lost his mask in a match in September 2012. With his brother Espíritu Negro as Los Atrapa Sueños, they are one-time Mexican National Tag Team Champions and the current Mexican National Trios Champions in their first reign. He is also a former holder of the Mexican National Welterweight Championship.
La Peste Negra was a Mexican lucha librerudo, or villainous, group also known as a stable that works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The core of the group is the Casas wrestling family, which includes members Negro Casas and El Felino and former members Heavy Metal and Princesa Blanca. The group is rounded out by Mr. Niebla and rookies Bárbaro Cavernario and Herodes, Jr. The group was founded in July 2008 when Mr. Niebla returned to CMLL after working for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) and has consistently been used at the main event and semi-main event level in CMLL. Their motto is "be heinous and stinky"

The Torneo Gran Alternativa concept sees a Novato or rookie team up with an experienced wrestler for a tag team tournament. The rookie winner is often elevated up the ranks of CMLL as a result of winning the tournament, but there is no specific "prize" for winning the tournament. The tournament was won by rookie Boby Zavala and veteran Rey Escorpión, Escorpión's second tournament win overall.

The Arena México 57th Anniversary Show was a major professional wrestling event produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) that took place on April 26, 2013, in CMLL's home arena Arena México in Mexico City, Mexico. The event commemorated the 57th anniversary of the completion of Arena México in 1958. Upon its completion Arena Mexico became CMLL's main venue and has served as the host of almost all major shows since then.

In September 2014 Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) held three CMLL Super Viernes shows on Friday nights. On September 19 they replaced the regular Friday night show with their 81st Anniversary Show, CMLL's biggest show of the year and the culmination of a number of storylines built up in the previous weeks or months. Some of the matches from Super Viernes are taped for CMLL's weekly shows that air on television in Mexico in the following week. The first two Super Viernes shows focused primarily on the build towards the 81st Anniversary show, especially the Lucha de Apuestas, mask vs. mask match main event of the show between Atlantis and Último Guerrero that would be the culmination of a storyline years in the making. It was also used to feature a quickly escalating storyline between Rey Cometa and Cavernario, leading up to one of the featured matches at the Anniversary Show. The post anniversary Super Viernes show featured the first round of the La Copa Junior VIP tournament, the second such tournament of 2014, this time featuring higher ranking wrestlers than the January 1, 2014 version. The tournament would continue into October 2014.

The 2016 International Gran Prix was the twelfth time CMLL held an International Gran Prix tournament since 1994 and the first one in eight years. The Torneo Gran Alternativa was a professional wrestling tournament held by the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. The tournament was held on April 2, 1999, in Mexico City, Mexico at CMLL's main venue, Arena México. The Gran Alternativa tournament features tag teams composed of a rookie, or novato, and a veteran wrestler for an elimination tournament. The idea is to feature the novato wrestlers higher on the card that they usually work and help elevate one or more up the ranks. CMLL made the Torneo Gran Alternativa an annual event in 1995, only skipping it four times between 1994 and 2017. since it is a professional wrestling tournament, it is not won or lost competitively but instead by the decisions of the bookers of a wrestling promotion that is not publicized prior to the shows to maintain the illusion that professional wrestling is a competitive sport.
