Transform is a 2019 studio album by the English musician Howard Jones. It is the first proper studio album from Jones in a decade, and was released on 10 May 2019 on CD and vinyl formats. [1]
Transform was conceived from multiple situations. One being when former Take That frontman Gary Barlow asked Jones to produce songs for the soundtrack to the 2016 movie Eddie the Eagle. Two songs were written for the soundtrack, with one—"Eagle Will Fly Again"—being featured on Transform. Jones recalls that after writing the two tracks, he thought about returning to his electronic roots. [1]
Another build up was when Jones collaborated with fellow friend and fan BT for three tracks. [2] "The One to Love You", the first song on the album, was the first of their endeavours. The final catalyst was, of course, the fans who relentlessly asked for a new synth-based album from the musician. [1] Jones also teamed up again with producer Robbie Bronnimann, who was present on the 2005 album Revolution of the Heart . [3]
When asked about the lyrics in Transform, Jones responded by stating he wanted the music to be relevant to those in his generation when it comes to "having kids or battling with negative forces". He continues by adding, "My lyrics are about how we can work on our own attitude to life to be happier with it. It starts with us. If we stand up and say no we aren’t having it anymore. Then it will change." [4]
Jones embarked on a summer tour to promote the album with Men Without Hats and BT and his group All Hail the Silence. [1] [5]

Transform received mostly positive reviews. Libby Cudmore of Paste felt Transform was both familiar and innovative; saying that Howard Jones had returned stronger than ever. She praised the complexity of the beats and keyboard lines on "The One to Love You", "Take Us Higher", and "Tin Man", while also noting that the lyrics are "honest" and "tailor-made for the montage that plays in your head while...running at the gym...[or] indulging in some much-needed self-care." [11]
Alfie Vera Mella of Cryptic Rock considered the album to be "another testimony of [Jones'] greatness" when it comes to adapting to modern music without sacrificing his trademark sound. Vera Mella praised "Take Us Higher"'s "dancey mood" by comparing it to the likes of 1990's alternative dance bands (The Farm, Pop Will Eat Itself) and early synthpop (The Human League). He also appreciated the melodramatic "Tin Man" and passionate ballad "Mother", but considered "Hero in Your Eyes" to be the album's highlight. [12]
Wyndham Wallace of Classic Pop magazine praised Jones for sticking to his nostalgic roots. He found the album to be full of "jolly" and "nifty" tracks, but still able to "successfully...show [Jones'] touchy-feely side". He gave the album the designation "Best New Release" of May 2019. [10]

A Flock of Seagulls are an English new wave band formed in Liverpool in 1979. The group, whose best-known line-up comprised Mike Score, Ali Score, Frank Maudsley and Paul Reynolds, hit the peak of their chart success in the early 1980s.
John Howard Jones is a British musician, singer and songwriter. He had ten top 40 hit singles in the UK between 1983 and 1986, six of which reached the top ten, including "Like to Get to Know You Well", "What Is Love?", "New Song", and "Things Can Only Get Better". His 1984 album Human's Lib reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Around the world, Jones had 15 top 40 hit singles between 1983 and 1992. The 1986 hit single "No One Is to Blame" reached No. 4 on the US charts. Four others placed in the US top 20.
Simple Man is the second album by German countertenor Klaus Nomi, released on 23 November 1982 by RCA. It was also the last album of original material to be released during Nomi's lifetime.
The Cost of Loving is the third studio album by English band The Style Council. It was originally released in February 1987. The album was recorded over a period of three months in 1986, at Solid Bond Studios. The album is generally regarded as the culmination of the smoother, more adult-oriented sound of the band's later work. The album peaked at number 2 in the UK charts, and achieved gold status from the BPI. It featured the singles "It Didn't Matter" and "Waiting", which had corresponding music videos. Human's Lib is the debut album by the British pop musician Howard Jones. It was released in March 1984 and entered the UK Albums Chart at the no. 1 spot, spending a total of 57 weeks in the charts. The album has been certified double platinum by the BPI for sales in excess of 600,000 copies.
"Space Age Love Song" is a 1982 single released by the British band A Flock of Seagulls. It was their fourth single. Lead guitarist Paul Reynolds remarked on their 1984 video album Through the Looking Glass that, as the band could not come up with a title for the track, he suggested "Space Age Love Song" because he thought it sounded like a space age love song. The song reached the top 30 in the UK and the US in June 1982 and February 1983 respectively.
Good Karma is the tenth and final studio album by Roxette, a Swedish pop rock duo consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Released on 3 June 2016 by Roxette Recordings and Parlophone, it was the only album issued by the duo under an international recording contract signed with Parlophone's parent company Warner Music Group. The album was produced by Gessle alongside Christoffer Lundquist and Clarence Öfwerman, with co-production on several tracks by Addeboy vs. Cliff, among others.

Produced by OMD, it was released on 1 September 2017 by 100% Records in the UK and White Noise elsewhere. In July of that year, the band commenced a tour of North America and Europe in support of the record.

Science Fiction is the debut solo studio album by English singer Tom Bailey, best known as the lead singer of pop band Thompson Twins. It was released on 13 July 2018. A limited-edition double CD hardback mediabook version of the album was also released, featuring a bonus disc with seven alternative versions and remixes, and a companion book.
"Give Yourself a Try" is a song by English band the 1975 from their third studio album, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships (2018). The song was written by band members Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann and Ross MacDonald, while Daniel and Healy handled the production. It was released on 31 May 2018 by Dirty Hit and Polydor Records as the lead single from the album. The band was inspired by the works of Joy Division, specifically their track "Disorder", which Healy said stemmed from both acts originating from Macclesfield. He wrote the song using a mix of autobiographical and fictional elements, wanting to capture the health and social anxiety experienced by millennials.
Fool is the 20th studio album by British singer-songwriter Joe Jackson. Recorded the day after the end of his Fast Forward tour at the Tonic Room Studios in Boise, Idaho. Jackson had decided to record the album in whichever city the tour finished, which happened to be Boise after a performance at the Egyptian Theatre. It was released on 18 January 2019 through Edel AG.
12 Little Spells is the seventh studio album by American bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding. It was released on October 19, 2018, by Concord Records. Each song was released individually from October 7–18, 2018 and each track also contains a music video.
Why You So Crazy is the tenth studio album by American alternative rock band The Dandy Warhols, released on January 25, 2019, through Dine Alone Records. It was supported by the single "Be Alright", for which a 360° video was made starring actress Jessica Paré, and was promoted by a 2019 tour.
