Sam Trapkin: [Justice Tripp] wasn't even supposed to sing in the band originally, it was supposed to be Anton [Rough] and it wasn't until like, I don't know long until we recorded, but it was last minute that Justice did it instead. We'd never even heard Justice sing before. So like, him recording the demo was like 'Well, I hope Justice sounds cool cause this could be a disaster'.
Colin Young: Was he gonna play second guitar?
Sam Trapkin: Yeah, just gonna play guitar.
I think we had that vision though for the band, cause like again we were coming straight out of a full summer of [listening to] State of the World Address, which is like a pretty rappy record. Early vision of the band was like heavy, Justice definitely had the Crown of Thornz type of influence... Integrity was pretty popular then, I remember hearing Integrity doing [this style of bar chord], so I think those were possible influences. I discovered Merauder super early and that was huge.
I love Fury of Five—that's what I think a lot of people would define as "ignorant hardcore." We love Hatebreed, we love Madball, we love Biohazard. So we were asking for it. We were playing into the role and trying to make that idea cool to people that it wasn't cool to initially... everything I do artistically is a combination of influences, and how do you mash them all together to make something new. I've always said that mine has been Stikman from Fury of Five: Raging psychopath. A fierce, unstoppable force. And then Iggy Pop: Sexuality is always in question.
