Rossendale is a district with borough status in Lancashire, England, holding a number of small former mill towns centred on the valley of the River Irwell in the industrial North West. Rossendale combines modest size urban development with rural villages and is immediately south of Burnley, east of Blackburn and north of Bolton, Bury, Manchester and Rochdale, centred 15 miles (24 km) north of Manchester.
Sedgefield District was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district and, Borough in County Durham, in North East England. It had a population of about 87,000. It was named after Sedgefield, but its largest town was Newton Aycliffe. Other places included Shildon, Ferryhill and Spennymoor.

Tudhoe is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) south of the city of Durham. It lies just outside Spennymoor, a short distance to the west of the Great North Road. The village is now a quiet backwater, its green a cul-de-sac that runs down from the main road towards the River Wear. In former times, however, Tudhoe lay at the centre of a network of roads: one ran to Durham by way of Sunderland Bridge and Croxdale, another to Kirk Merrington, a third to Bishop Auckland, a fourth to Whitworth and Byers Green, and a fifth across a ford to Brancepeth Castle and village on the far side of the river. All except the Brancepeth road are shown, somewhat schematically, on Thomas Jeffrey's map of County Durham of 1758.
Whitworth was a civil parish in County Durham, in England, centred on Whitworth Hall. It was one of several parishes abolished in 1937 to create the parish of Spennymoor. Whitworth Hall is on the road between Spennymoor and Brancepeth, and is close to Tudhoe. The house was in former times the home of the Shafto family, whose most famous member was Bobby Shafto, subject of a famous English nursery rhyme.
Sedgefield is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. From 1983 to 2007, the constituency was represented by Tony Blair, who became Leader of the Labour Party in 1994, and later as Prime Minister in 1997. Blair resigned as Prime Minister, Leader of the Labour Party, and as the MP for Sedgefield in 2007, triggering a by-election which was retained for the Labour Party by Phil Wilson. In the 2019 general election, the Conservatives took the seat from Labour, ending Labour's continuous hold on the seat since 1983. Paul Howell became the new MP with a majority of 4,513. The seat's previous incarnation had elected Labour MPs since 1935.
