Japan competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. Japan returned to the Games after participating in the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. 226 competitors, 174 men and 52 women, took part in 147 events in 22 sports.
The Czech and Slovak Federative Republic competed as a nation for the last time at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992, the Czech Republic and Slovakia would compete as independent nations at the 1996 Summer Olympics. 208 competitors, 146 men and 62 women, took part in 121 events in 25 sports.

The event was won by Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo of the Unified Team, the first victory by a Soviet or former Soviet in the event since 1980. The silver went to Hrihoriy Misyutin, a Ukrainian also competing for the Unified Team. Yoo Ok-ryul gave South Korea its second consecutive bronze medal in the men's vault.

The qualification and final rounds took place on July 27, 29 and August 2 at the Palau d'Esports de Barcelona. There were 93 competitors from 25 nations, with nations in the team event having 6 gymnasts while other nations could have up to 3 gymnasts. For the third consecutive Games, the pommel horse ended in a tie for the gold medal. Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo and North Korean Pae Gil-su shared the top place. It was North Korea's first medal in the event. Bronze went to Andreas Wecker of Germany.

The 2010 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships was held at the Rotterdam Ahoy indoor sporting arena in the Netherlands from 16 to 24 October 2010. In this year's championships, there was a total of 73 participating federations with 615 gymnasts. 53 men's and 44 women's teams competed.

The 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 7–16, 2011, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Due to uncertainty over the nuclear situation following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the International Federation of Gymnastics revealed it was considering moving the event, but on May 22 FIG president Bruno Grandi announced that the World Championships would take place in Tokyo as planned.
The men's artistic gymnastics individual all-around competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 28 July and 1 August 2012. It included 41 competitors from 27 nations.

Brazil sent a team of 203 athletes to compete in the 2015 Summer Universiade held in Gwangju, South Korea from July 3 to 17, 2013.
The men's rings competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held at the HSBC Arena on 6 and 15 August. There were 70 competitors from 34 nations. The event was won by Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece, the nation's first medal in the men's rings since 2004. Defending champion Arthur Zanetti of Brazil finished second, making him the 13th man to win multiple medals in the event. Denis Ablyazin earned Russia's first post-Soviet medal in the event with his bronze.
Ukraine competed at the 2019 European Games, in Minsk, Belarus from 21 to 30 June 2019 and won 52 medals, including 16 golds. Ukrainian athletes competed in all 15 sports included in the programm. Ukraine's team was third biggest team at the Games. Ukraine has previously competed at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it won 46 medals, including eight golds.
