Nur Tatar Askari (born August 16, 1992 in Van, Turkey) is a world and European champion Turkish female taekwondo practitioner competing in the feather, light and welterweight divisions. [1] She is of Kurdish descent. [2]
She was a member of the TSE Sports Club in Ankara before she transferred to Ankara İller Bankası. She is coached by Cüneyt Gülçek. [3] [4]
Nur Tatar won her first medal at the age of 15. She won twice the European Junior Taekwondo Championships, and reached to gold medals in A-class tournaments in Europe. [3] She won the silver medal at the 2010 European Taekwondo Championships held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. [5]
She qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics [6] where she won the silver medal at 67 kg. [7] At the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey she became gold medalist. [8] She qualified again for olympics at 2016
She got married in 2017 to a former member of Iranian national taekwondo team Mehran Askari. [9]

Turkey competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Since the nation's debut in 1908, Turkish athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for three occasions. Turkey failed to register any athletes at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, did not attend the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of worldwide Great Depression, and also joined the United States-led boycott, when Moscow hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics.
