The 2021 European Taekwondo Championships, the 24th edition of the European Taekwondo Championships, was held in Sofia, Bulgaria at the Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia from 8 to 11 April 2021. [1] [2]

Sofia was hosting the biggest sports event for deaf athletes for a second time. In the past the Bulgarian capital hosted the 1993 Summer Deaflympics, thus becoming only the second city, together with Copenhagen, which has hosted two Summer Deaflympics.

The 2021 European Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament for the Tokyo Olympic Games took place in Sofia, Bulgaria. The tournament was held from 7 to 8 May, 2021. Each country could enter a maximum of 2 male and 2 female divisions with only one athlete in each division. The winner and runner-up athletes per division qualified for the Olympic Games under their NOC.

The 2021 European Weightlifting Championships took place in Moscow, Russia, from 3 to 11 April 2021.

The European Taekwondo Championships in Olympic Weight Categories are the European senior championships in Taekwondo in olympic weight categories, first held in Nalchik in 2015. The event is held annually and is organized by the European Taekwondo Union, the continental affiliate of World Taekwondo. This event is ranked as a G-1 tournament while the main European Championships are ranked as a G-4 tournament.

Rebecca McGowan is a British taekwondo practitioner. She is a two-time medalist in the women's +73 kg event at the World Taekwondo Championships. She is also a two-time medalist, including gold, in this event at the European Taekwondo Championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">July 2021 Bulgarian parliamentary election</span>

Snap parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria on 11 July 2021 after no party was able or willing to form a government following the April 2021 elections. The populist party There Is Such a People (ITN), led by musician and television host Slavi Trifonov, narrowly won the most seats over a coalition of the conservative GERB and Union of Democratic Forces parties. Four other parties won seats in the 240-member Parliament as well.

Ivan Šapina is a Croatian taekwondo practitioner. He is a two-time medalist in the men's 87 kg event at the World Taekwondo Championships. He is also a two-time medalist, including gold, in his event at the European Taekwondo Championships.
